It’s time for the Thrifty Style Team to bring you their very best thrifty decor, and today I am focusing on the dollar store. I have 12 Dollar Store Ideas for Every Season, plus my gals from the Thrifty Style Team will share their ideas at the very end. Before we get to all of that, I want to share this e-mail I received from my 84 year old Dad a couple days ago. He completely inspired me to put this dollar store collection together.
Here’s my Dad’s e-mail:
“Dear Dude (he calls me Dude since I was 5, not kidding)…I go to Dollar Store once a month, and save a lot , I buy same things every month, no more no less. They are: Wax Paper, Foil, Napkins, Kitchen G bags, Frz bags, lg and small, Spray deoderizer, Baby aspir for by heart, pens, Pads, greeting cards if needed. I spend around $15 mo, saving a good $15 or more, also batteries if needed. love, Dad.”
I loved the e-mail so much, I decided to send back the list of basic household items I purchase at the dollar store. Here it is:
“Very interesting, my father. I buy toothpaste, pretzels (their pretzels are amazing), vinegar, chips, candles, batteries, and the kids get to pick out their favorites which Daphne usually gets boxes and envelopes for her company mailing needs, and Vic usually finds candy, dried fruit, and something interesting like sunglasses or socks.”
Now that you have all of our dollar store secret buys floating around in your head, I have to tell you that this post isn’t focused on just household items you should try at the dollar store, but at least you have our lists. I consider my Dad an expert dollar store shopper, and the apple didn’t fall far from the (dollar) tree. My parents live on a very tight budget and I think he his brilliant for saving money this way. Have fun sifting through these 12 dollar store makeovers, and maybe wish my Dad a happy birthday if you have time…

The dollar store closest to me is one of those not really everything is a dollar kinds. So when I see something that is say $1.50 that I know is just a buck at Dollar Tree, I just can’t buy it! I have to hold out for the actual store where everything really is one dollar.

Hey there Dad of Redhead,great legs, pretty snazzy for old guy of 84.I turned 78 on July 21st. Hope your b/d is a wonderful happy one.I got to go to out to close, 31/2 miles from our house, state park lake where I love to float. Was very hot all day,phewy. Had family who tried to crash our spot all day. The kids were mad we got the spot, were rude all day. Their mom was really nice.
Lake is very crowded when so hot. My husband doesn’t go to lake willingly, had to remind him was my b/d. Going to lake is favorite thing for me in summer.Our daughter usually has cake for me at lake on my b/d but she was mad at me so no cake or seeing her or grand kids. She was punishing me she admitted to me..

Dear Dude – your dad is precious! Wishing him a very happy birthday! We love the Dollar Store too – such great value. We buy plastic tarp and sponge brushes for painting projects. Also, one time they had canvas drop cloths that we made into pillows.
