I want you to imagine that I ran into you at the dollar store 😯 . You see me in my leggings and sweatshirt with no make-up and you are not sure if it’s really me until you hear me say out-loud to myself, “Oh yah! I need these mini-faux pumpkins for my ‘Cozy Fall Porch’ blog photo shoot!” That was all you needed to know that yep, it was indeed the redhead that likes to decorate. You see…you knew my “Cozy Fall Porch” was coming up because you are subscribed to my newsletter. You get updates all the time on what I’m working on. So, you decided to introduce yourself and that’s when I decided to invite you over to see the “Cozy Fall Porch” in person! That’s how we ended up here.
Welcome to our “Cozy Fall Porch”…
Come on up don’t be shy, but please watch your step on our new “Budget Friendly Mahogany Wood Steps” that we just completed a few weeks ago. I want you to be able to get a better look at all of the warm details.
Does it feel cozy to you? It feels so cozy to me that I feel like grandma might be inside knitting a sweater by a fire warming up some apple pie! Yikes. That is about as cozy as you can get.
Here’s what the porch looked like before I started decorating for Fall…
EEK. That was looking pretty stark, Julie. Well, we had just finished the DIY wood steps and we were busy working on these beautiful DIY Cedar Stained Shutters. All of the “wood” exterior updates were really putting me into a rustic cozy mood.
So, when I was invited into the “Welcome Home Fall Tour” created by my friend, Kristi from Chatfield Court I knew a “Cozy Fall Porch” would make for a wonderful segment in her tour. I started with this rusty old “Whiskey Barrel Hoop Fall Wreath” which was made easily with just a few items I had around the house. I give the full tutorial if you click on that blue link above.
Next, came decorating the entire porch.
This photo below seems to capture not only the porch, but all of our latest projects all at once (at least 1 shutter made it in). And look at the hydrangea bush and fern. They are really happy this year. They are like 2 big green poof balls.
I tried to use items I had around the house for the entire porch, but I ended up having to upgrade my faux leaf garland from the dollar store version, to the more expensive craft store kind. I was very happy I did that because this one from Joann’s has pretty sparkles in the leaves and there are also little eyelet hooks on each end to attach the ends to one another. One word of advice though, they can not get wet or they will stain your porch.
Next, I took out the gorgeous impatiens that over filled our Thrifty Nightstand Flower Planter. I set those over on my red bench, and filled the drawer with faux mums. Never thought I would buy faux mums, but I did this year 😯 .
Oh, and the real wood logs and repurposed Mason Jar Lamp just give it all a very rustic, warm, cozy feeling. Almost like a fire burning, right? We have 2 fireplaces in our home and we use them often up here in Michigan, so this theme really fits us. I suppose if you live in a hot climate it may seem awkward? I keep that light “burning” all night and the bugs don’t pay any attention to it.
On the right side I placed one of our very old ladder back chairs, and a Fall colored plaid pillow. The “sweater weather” theme is carried through not only from the wood on the table and on the wreath (people wear sweaters to campfires), but to the fox wearing the sweater, and then I threw my black & grey striped sweater out there for contrast. I hope no one steals it, it is my favorite Fall sweater. The basket you may remember from last year? It was my “Cozy Apple Basket” idea…
So, that’s about it guys. What do you think? Will you try any of these cozy warm ideas this year?
I hope so!
Oh please don’t forget to visit my friends that are joining me on this tour. You may remember Carrie, from Lovely Etc. when she use to contribute to redheadcandecorate.com? And I know you must know Jennifer from Town & Country Living? Both ladies are so talented and we are surrounded by lots of beautiful Fall tours this year.
