Welcome back after a little winter break to our first Valentine’s Day in our new home ♥️. Let me ask you, is it silly for a fifty-five year old lady to display how much she loves her husband of 31 years, her grown children, and her sweet rescue kitty with fluffy hearts, and other traditional Valentine’ Day decor? Heck, no. It doesn’t matter if you’re a teenager or a golden ager, hearts are always in style, and today I prove it to you from our cozy love nest with these very “Simple Valentine’s Day Decorating Ideas”…
Transform Sofa and Chairs into a Valentine’s Day Cozy Spot with Pillows and Candles
Lips, hearts, the warm glow of a fire, heck yah! So, I usually don’t decorate with red lips, but this year I just couldn’t resist. Maybe it’s because my lips are thinning I don’t know 😆, but either way I love how they look with my fluffy red and pink heart pillows. I found that gorgeous red glossy ceramic lips 3 wick cherry candle at TJ Max, and all the pillows including the velvet lip pillow are from At Home. Oh, before I forget, the only pillow I made myself is that sparkling red heart and I give a simple tutorial here: CREATE YOUR OWN HEART PILLOW WITH A PLACEMAT
Here’s a few more photo of how I use the fun pillows along with our rescue kitty “Rosie” who is the star of the show around here…
Don’t forget to add a pillow or two in other areas of the house where folks gather. Wait…do you see what I see behind that chair?
Leave Your Christmas Tree Up for a Simple Valentine’s Day Decorating Idea
Ok, I am guilty as charged. Lock the redhead up and throw away the key 😆. Yes, our Christmas tree is still up, and guess what? I love how it carries the red and pinks into the Valentine’s Day season, and warms up the living room while it’s below zero some nights. It took me just a couple minutes to remove everything but the pink and red ornaments, and then add just a few hearts/cupids, and a sign from the dollar store. Boom…a Valentine’s Day tree is born and it can stay up for all of February ♥️. Check out below how the pillows and tree give off such a cute, fun loving vibe. I really think that’s what we all need lately, LOVE.

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Decor Touches
It really doesn’t take much to transform your home with just a few splashes of Valentine’s Day here and there. In the photo below I found that wood cursive “Love” sign at the dollar store, and spray painted it with red sparkled spray paint. The gold trimmed crystal champagne glasses are from our wedding 31 years ago! I usually display them with our wedding photo on the black shelf you see up there to the left of the fireplace. I just pulled them out and filled them with little pink and red hearts also from the dollar store- just be careful if you have little ones, or pets.

My mom was always a big fan of nice dish towels. I think she gifted me dish towels more than any other item-gosh I miss her so. Here’s to my mom…her love lives on forever in my heart and I’ve passed on her dish towel tradition and often gift the kiddos with fun dish towels, too. The question is…do I use these dish towels, or no? My vote is yes ❤️

I couldn’t let this Valentine’s Day go by without sharing a few chocolates…I found these chocolate cream filled red foil hearts at TJ Max when I found the lip candle. I actually left the cashier for a second to go grab them from another station 😆. The yummy hearts were so worth it, especially after I saw how cute they shine in the vintage green glass ashtray I grew up with. Old glass ashtrays make gorgeous candy dishes…

Before I let you go to go, I wanted to remind you how to prolong the life of roses with just one simple step…
When your roses begin to wilt, you can try removing a few of the outside petals and adding fresh water to give them a boost. When they are past that point and are drooping, just take a pair of scissors and clip off the rose flower and place it on a pretty plate, or tiered tray like I did below. You can add a little water to the plate, or just let them dry naturally- and keep them out on display as long as you like. One other lovely idea is to save the dried rose flower in a zippy bag until you visit a loved one at a cemetery, or burial site. Scatter the dried roses sending love to your loved one…

Thank goodness January is over…I think we all need more LOVE in the world more than ever. Decorate up a storm my friends, and show everyone the love you feel in your hearts. Love, Julie ♥️
