I truly never thought I could top our “Cozy Rustic Romantic Bedroom” from the old house, and guess what? I can’t 😆! However, we were so ready for a change, and our NEW master bedroom at our new home is HUGE…so much so, I had to figure out what to do with all the extra space. I hope you enjoy our “New Modern Master Bedroom Makeover”…here’s the before when we went to the showing 👇🏻
Master Bedroom Before Photos

Don’t be fooled by that photo…yes the bedroom is large, but the photo is distorted a bit, and the room looks larger than it really is. In other words, the bed really wasn’t that small when we went for the showing. By the way, I absolutely LOVE having carpet in the master bedroom, and the 3 other bedrooms (we replaced some rooms before we moved in). We opted for a very high quality pad, and lush high quality carpet, and enjoy the luxuriousness every single day. Carpet is not cheap, and you definitely get what you pay for. I will also never go back to hard wood in the bedroom…It’s just too hard on my feet, and area rugs are too much work to clean. I literally feel like I am floating on this carpet.
Moving on, did you notice that the previous owners left their curtains…and what do you think of that big sparkly “flush” light fixture? Do you think we kept it?

Our New Modern Master Bedroom Makeover
You’re darn right we kept that gorgeous crystal light fixture…it’s the star of the show, and speaking of stars, this first photo below is one I caught right before the sun went down. We are truly blessed to have the sun set on state protected land behind our home. Every night, there is a gorgeous sunset and you never know what colors it will be. I have even taking a nap on our bed watching the sun go down…
So, back to the changes we made…first, what do you think of the dark accent wall? This is a very bright room, so a dark wall is exactly what brings the eye in and helps create a dramatic backdrop for our bed. Speaking of the bed…yes we finally purchased a new king sized bed after almost 15 years with the old one. We chose a very sleek, lower modern style bed frame that works great for our Sleep Number mattress. We also purchased two night stands and a dresser with a mirror.
I decorated the bed(room) using very neutral tones including the large light brown knitted throw at the bottom of the bed, that actually brings all of the natural tones/patterns together. The leather accent pillows on the bed are my favorite, and they were a great price on Amazon here:
Thrift Store Basket Wall for the Modern Master Bedroom
I wanted something really cool above our bed frame, but didn’t want to spend any money…so I recycled all of the thrift store baskets I used in our apartment decor. If you want to see that basket wall which is a tad different, just click here: THRIFTY BASKET WALL CORNER (but be sure to come back to see the new shades!)
If you look closely you’ll notice that I strategically placed faux and real plants on both sides of the room, and in the middle, so they give off a cohesive natural look that helps blend everything together. When faux plants get dusty, just rinse in your tub and let air dry 😉

Add Unique Pieces To Your Bedroom When Decorating
Before I move on to the new blinds, and curtains, I wanted to tell you that the bentwood chair at the end of our bed has been in my family for over 100 years, and I carry it to every house I ever lived in. It was once found in my Aunt Madge’s Bar in Buffalo, NY where my mom lived with her mom and dad in the apartment above. The picnic basket was also a gift to my dear mother back in the 80’s from my brother. Both my mom and brother are deceased now, so they are very special to me. Rosie seems to approve them, as well.
TIP: ADD UNIQUE PIECES TO YOUR HOME DECOR THAT HAVE MEANING TO YOU. TAKE RISKS. TRY SOMETHING NEW.

New Curtains and Roller Blinds for The New Modern Master Bedroom
Yippee! After a couple weeks with the curtains the previous owners left behind, I decided to take them down, wash them, and use them in our guest room. The guest room will be coming up soon (the curtains actually look FANTASTIC after washing), but until then, guess what else I decided to take down…if you look back at the before photos you will see the faux wood “builder” blinds that came with the house. I had enough of those blocking way too much of our beautiful view-they had to go. They are on sale on Facebook Marketplace if interested LMK😊.
I did a ton of searching for the exact roller blinds I was looking for. I wanted something that had a natural pattern, but also something that would block out all of the light when rolled down. I took a risk and measured the windows very carefully and ordered these special order. They are absolutely gorgeous. If interested just click here:

I feel the exact way about the black curtains I ordered. They are a little long, but that’s how I like them-to drape on the floor. If interested in the curtains or the rod here you go…
BLACK CURTAINS w/ CLIPS INCLUDED
Lastly….below is a peek on the other side of our new master bedroom and as I mentioned is a bit larger than our old one, so I had to fill some corners. I’ve learned how to mix faux plants with real and it is quite addicting. You may remember the rocker is from the thrift store. The framed photo is a special one of me holding our son over the waves of the beautiful Atlantic when he was an infant, with our daughter who are now both in their 20’s. It was taken when we lived in Jacksonville, Florida for a few years.
I sure do hope you are enjoying the new home as much as we are. We absolutely love it here. Thank you for visiting Our New Modern Master Bedroom Makeover…

Thanksgiving Stuffed Celery

Family Room Makeover

Redhead’s Sausage, Spinach & Bean Soup

Love the new bedroom. Before seeing how you use bold colors in your previous house and apartment, such as black for accent walls and bold colors to decorate, I was very timid to try it. But over the years you’ve given me inspiration to go for it and liven up my home.
I love that you are trying it, Christy!!! What a difference it makes! Thank you for following along!!!
Bedroom make over is just beautiful. I love all the different textures and the color scheme 😍
Thank you, Georgene! I love the textures, too!!

Your new home is a haven of great joy and wonderful memories being made. Congratulations to you and your family. Happy Holidays from an avid fan. Diane
Thank you, Diane! Your comment is so incredibly kind!
WOW! Great job and smart colours. So happy to hear back from you and that I finally got to open the email.
I was going to send a card but our Postal Service just went on strike.
Joe and I are doing okay, years catching up, but we’re still mobile.
Was wondering if you are still going to put Joe’s painting up? Your home is gorgeous and so nice you get to see the sunset each night.
Lots of Hugs, Bette❤️
Hi Bette! Yes I am using Joe’s painting in our second guest room. I am doing a beach theme in there! Joe’s big canvas will go on the biggest wall in there. It’s going to be beautiful especially since the sun sets in that window, too!
You constantly amaze me with your talent Sis! I love how you’ve transformed some of the rooms in the new house and look forward to more reveals! I’m extremely proud of you, in case I don’t tell you. I honestly am so excited to see how you can lend your talents to me in the future. 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️
Thank you, Dido! We will decorate your apartment up real nice!!
I like the light, the painted wall and the carpet. It gives me a 70s vibe.
This master bedroom makeover is absolutely stunning! Love the modern touches and cozy vibe you’ve created.
Thank you, Isabella! We appreciate your kind words. We like the room too…we were just saying how it feels more like a loft up here because it is right at the top of the stairs with double doors.
Love the new velvet quilt/comforter! Did you order the black color or is it charcoal gray?
I ordered the black! Here’s my Amazon affiliate link: https://amzn.to/4lCC4AN
