Sneak Peek at Our New House!

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Drum roll please…after almost one year of studying the housing market day in and day out, we have finally settled on a very “big” decision. After months of searching not only on line, but also in person touring probably over 50 homes or more…we have decided on this beautiful modern “open concept” colonial that was built in 2017. As soon as I saw the long front porch, and serene view out back, I pictured Rick and I hanging out out there sipping our favorite drinks with our feet up enjoying all the blessing life has given us. Isn’t she a beauty???

I know what you’re thinking…It’s too big, Julie. I thought you were downsizing, Julie. You’re in your late 50’s, Julie. You’re empty nesters, Julie. Have you lost your mind, Julie?

Well…I may have a little Covid fog going on (just got over Covid), but what it really comes down to is that I’m bored out of mind. The kids are on their own, they took the cats with them, so I need something big and fun to focus on. I’m also 54, not 84, Rick is still very much a busy lawyer, and I am still very much a decorator at heart. In addition…our kids love spending time hanging out with us, so I wanted them each to have their own room when they come for holidays, and even just to have dinner. So there you go 😊

I truly wish I could show you the entire “open floor plan” (it is absolutely gorgeous inside), but we aren’t closing until March 31st, and even after that we are giving them one month of occupancy, and then we are taking a full month to paint, change the carpet, and move in. I plan on sharing every step of the journey with you, including updating the kitchen cabinets, fireplace, and staircase! STAY TUNED…

I’m happy for you!! You’ll have so much fun making that home perfect for you.

We bought an acre and a half and built a house 7 years ago. People thought we were crazy for having so much to take care of but it’s what we enjoy! 🙂 We have no desire to sit and do nothing.

It’s beautiful Julie! It will be so fun to watch you personalize it with your special touch.

So excited for you! Goodness you are much too young to go tiny. The best decades lie ahead for this. But it is nice you took the apartment time as you inspired many with your ideas.

It’s beautiful! Can’t wait to see the rest and what you do with it! We did almost the same thing (*I’m 63 in a week.) I thought I wanted to downsize when our son moved away. We always lived in small, tight houses. When this 1966 ranch house with huge rooms- in the country and on a lake came up for sale (and in our price range)- I just knew it was the one. The dogs have a huge yard; I have nice large rooms and Hubby is a fisherman and loves the lake so close. We also have boat access to a bigger lake as well. It’s still a work in progress but we’re here ’till the end.

It is a lovely house…sorta looks like your other house.Looks like you are in Surburbia. 13. Pat says:

Absolutely beautiful! May I make a suggestion? Stairs can become a real challenge as one ages. Other things can happen to our physical bodies that we could never predict! Happened to me! Just something to think about….

    • Julie says:

Thank you for your concern Pat… we have given the stairs thought for sure. Rick and I are into health & fitness and work out daily. God willing, we figure in roughly 10-12 years we will downsize & we will still be in our 60’s. Until then we are loving those stairs!

  14. carol says:

Love the house! Love that you and Rick realize that you both are still young and are going for something you will enjoy doing!! So excited to watch this chapter ❤️❤️

Congratulations on your home purchase. I, too, look forward to following your new adventure. I’m not entirely surprised that you went with a bigger home because I have been checking the real estate market for a home to downsize to and find many of the smaller homes way overpriced for the square footage and amount of renovations required.

  16. Kay says:

My husband, of six months, and I finished the renovation of our living space in November! He’s 76 and I’m 71. I did all the plans and it’s absolutely beautiful! You’re never too old to do what makes you happy so carry on!
I love your decorating and get many ideas from it!

  17. Ivory says:

Omg, I can hardly wait to see the fabulous things you will be doing to your new home. I can only imagine how excited you must be. And can hardly wait to get your hands dirty decorating and making all those beautiful changes. I plan to follow every step.
What I can see do far, spell gorgeous!

  18. Kathleen says:

Julie, you are just amazing, and I look forward to watching you sprinkle your magic again. I envy you and your young age to be able to do this again. I had several medical issues and had not been online for many many many months and was so devastated when I got back to you and found you had moved into a tiny apartment which you immediately transformed to a lovely paradise.

I too was (not a decorator) but a fixer upper and do-it-yourselfer all my life. A more fragile little lady now so my body won’t do it, but I tell, my brain is spinning. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity, delight and, quite frankly, a giant buzz 🐝, watching you make your dreams come true again. God bless you and hubby on your next journey! ❤️🙏. Love from Canada 🍁

    • Julie says:

This was so sweet, Kathleen! I love your giant “buzz” 🐝 compliment! Right back at you!! I enjoyed your comment so much I read it back to my family. Thank you for “bee” ing here 😊
