Redhead Can Decorate’s One Year Michigan Home Search Update

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Hi there, friends! Julie here with a much needed update on the big search for our next home 😊. It’s been a little over one year since the big move, and you may be wondering if we are ever going to find “the one”, or if our search for our next decorating canvas is stuck on pause. I assure you that our search is still in full swing 24/7, and I must say we sure have narrowed it down to what we don’t want. We are also certain of things we are not willing to do without like the sun in our back yard. I hope you enjoy “Redhead Can Decorate’s One Year Michigan Home Search Update” which includes not only a look back, but a look ahead at the house I’m looking at today which is still in consideration 😲. As a special , I want to tell you about a home improvement company we plan to use for all of the updating we will need in our new home. I think this is helpful information for all of you who need assistance NOW, and are tired of waiting for Red to find her final home.

Our One Year Michigan Home Search Update-a Look Back

Time zooms by, and I can’t believe that I’m in the middle of decorating our apartment balcony for Halloween for the second time. It feels like it was just last week when I created our first eye catching, draw dropping “Halloween Balcony” for a contest our apartment complex was having. I’m excited to tell you that we did end up winning first prize, and it was a sweet way to settle into our transitory apartment. I remember my husband telling me that our neighbor said, “Oh, you’re married to the decorating blogger”.😆 That was funny I thought, but enough of that…let’s take a look back at the house we left behind. I don’t miss it as much as I thought I might (my husband doesn’t miss it one bit because it was handful), but I do look back at the photos and think, WOW.

This post is sponsored by HomeGig.com however all images, opinions, words are legit from me, Julie the redheaded owner of redheadcandecorate.com. I choose may sponsors carefully.

Above is one of my favorite photos of our kitchen shortly before we moved after we painted the built-in shelves around the fireplace black. It was a scary decision, but once it was all completed I was shocked at how modern it made the space look. Are you thinking about updating your kitchen or bathrooms with a little paint magic? I happen to personally know a company that can help, so be sure to read about HomeGig.com below (It’s great for those of us who don’t want to do the work ourselves anymore.)

Here’s a few more photos of the kitchen so you can get the full affect of the black and white cabinets painted by me and my husband. I honestly can’t imagine doing it all over again. That was a ton of work my friends.

Our One Year Michigan Home Search Update-a Look Ahead

I must scroll through close to 200 houses a day (some on repeat) searching for all the criteria we are desiring. What are we looking for in our new home, you ask? Well, I’ve changed my original thoughts on a condo (not ready for that yet), and we’ve dug very deep to really think about what we truly need and want in our final home. For example, on top of that list for me is a beautiful staircase. I know a staircase isn’t exactly something that should stop us, but for me it is. Check out this large 1984 tudor home below with a breath taking winding staircase. This curvy entry almost makes me feel like a queen lives here 😆. Call me silly, but we like what we like and this foyer whispers, “You like me, Julie, don’t you?”. Yes, yes, I do. I may wear my PJ’s down those stairs every day, but I sure would feel good doing it.

UPDATE: We opted not to go back for a second showing to the house above because there wasn’t enough sun in the backyard and traffic was very loud. I had big plans for this staircase/foyer, but they will have to simmer on the back burner a little longer until “the one” comes along. I will tell you though that I would have enjoyed polishing up the original architecture here while adding in some modern touches like updated carpet, and a big new modern light fixture up against white walls. If you look close you can see how beautiful the crown moldings are.

Okay, so it’s not all about the staircase, but a few of the other characteristics we are looking for are wood floors, tall ceilings, big windows, open kitchen concept, and a pool with sun in the back. We are okay with “fixer uppers” as long as the price of the home isn’t too high. With that being said, I want to tell you who we plan to use when we need to find a contractor for our home. Rick and I would love to be able to fix up the entire home ourself, but we are getting tired of that kind of thing, so we need folks we can trust. I recently learned about HomeGig.com and I must say I love that this helpful home renovation/repair service is FREE for the first 12 months. That is a long time to get things hopefully completed! I actually tested out HomeGig.com on my computer here at the apartment for the light fixture that I want to change over our dining table (we are allowed to swap out light fixtures at our apartment). Here’s how simple this “handy man locator” is to use…

I tested HomeGig.com and I am impressed with their quick response time and check-ins. HomeGig is the place to go to get all of your home improvement jobs off your list.

I haven’t had time to actually find a new light fixture, but I’m hoping to before the holidays because the one we purchased “jiggles” 😆 and the noise drives me crazy when I walk around the apartment. Anyway…if you’re in need of someone to help you do anything around the house, I recommend giving HomeGig.com a try. Here’s what I found on their website, “HomeGig is platform where homeowners can upload detailed scans, photos, measurements, and materials of a home renovation project and home service professionals can bid on the jobs for free.” Sounds like they really care about their customers which makes me happy because I would never recommend anything I didn’t trust. Please let me know if you try them!

In the mean time, I am still searching for “the one” house to share with you that knocks my slippers off, and makes my mouth drop to the floor 😊. I’m also beginning to plan for Christmas decorating which involves a ton of snow and trees in our living room, so stay tuned. If you missed my Mom’s Goulash Recipe (found below) I hope you try it.

    Hi Julie & Rick:
Just opened your email and so happy that you are getting close to finding that perfect abode. Couldn’t open the video of the staircase but I imagine it was lovely.
The reason I haven’t been in touch. Joe had a stroke in mid July and he is recovering nicely, but it sort of changed our lives, what with me still recovering from my car accident and all.
Hope this finds you all healthy and enjoying life.
    Hugs, Bette & Joe♥️

Oh dear Bette, I was getting worried a bit to be honest. I’m so happy to hear from you, but so sorry to learn of Joe’s stroke. I am happy you are both ok. I am going to say a prayer for both you and Joe as Rick and I go out to the woods today. Rick is a hunter, and I go along for fun, but am not a hunter. My prayer will go straight up to where it needs to be real quick! Sending you both love and well wishes♥️
