Dollar Store Appetizer Board

You didn’t think I could let 2018 slip by without one more dollar store trick did you 😀 ?  Ha ha, you know me too well.  Every time I go in that place (Dollar Tree) I spot something with potential.  A few months ago when this idea struck, I was sure to jot down “Dollar Store Appetizer Board” in my blog planner, so I would remember it.  If I don’t write things down, I tend to forget, and I really didn’t want to forget this one.  I simply had no idea the dollar store carried so many refrigerated (and frozen) food items in the back of the store that could easily be used for an appetizer board.  I’ve kind of just always zipped by that area thinking it’s milk and eggs.  Well, I was completely wrong.  They even have steaks 😯 .

Unfortunately, my “Appetizer Board” doesn’t include steaks on the grill (maybe some other time), but it does look pretty darn cool doesn’t it?

Now, I know you’re wondering…is ALL OF THAT REALLY FROM THE DOLLAR STORE, JULIE?  You also may be wondering what in the world I was doing with the onion rings?

Well…

The answer to the first question is, “Yes”.  All of the food on this circular wood pine board (Home Depot $10) is from the dollar store.  Okay, I take that back.  The toothpicks, bowl, and glasses I had.

The answer to the second question is, “I love Funyuns” 😆 .

Isn’t it interesting to know this “Dollar Store Appetizer Board” is possible, though??  Obviously, I don’t expect that you’ll run out and buy all of these supplies for New Year’s Eve, but I think it’s pretty cool that you could pull this together -all from the dollar store if you wanted to.

Tip: be sure to check out my review of the items I bought below because some may surprise you.

Here’s the $10 circular wood pine board I found at Home Depot.  I used one of these boards years ago for a special gift for my husband.  If you want to check out his unique eyeglass holder just click here.

This round pine board is pure pine and has not been treated.  All I had to do to it was sand it slightly, and wash/dry it to prep it for the board.

If you’re interested in making one of my “Dollar Store Appetizer Boards”, please read this list below of supplies/reviews first.  I have added a few comments to help you decide what to use from the dollar store.

DOLLAR STORE APPETIZER BOARD

STUFFED CELERY: ALL INGREDIENTS ARE FROM DOLLAR STORE HERE’S MY RECIPE

WHAT I WOULD USE FROM THE DOLLAR STORE AGAIN:

DILL PICKLES, GREEN OLIVES, BLACK OLIVES (these were amazing), PICKLED PEPPERS, SMOKED SALTED ALMONDS, MEAT STICKS, PRETZELS (I love all of their pretzels), FUNYUNS, FROZEN MEATBALLS (surprisingly very good), MINI-BREAD ITALIAN BREAD ROLLS (I baked mine with olive oil first then sliced for dipping), OLIVE OIL & HUNTS TOMATO SAUCE (to dip bread in), MONET ROUND CRACKERS (yum).  FYI-the Polish sausage couldn’t fit on the board so I used it in Gumbo.  I still need to post that recipe.

WHAT I WOULD NOT USE FROM THE DOLLAR STORE AGAIN:

SALAMI, HAM, CHEESE

It looks absolutely fabulous! Wish I had this before Christmas Eve cause mine was a lot more stressful to put together! I found a food safe wooden lazy Susan at T J Max for $10 and that’s what I used.Awesome idea!

This is a great post! Don’t forget Dollar Tree also has several designs of chargers, so if you don’t have a board, that will work in a pinch. It might also be an option if you want to bring a cheese plate to a potluck or something and don’t want to have to worry about getting your board back, or as a gift.
