Pretty colors, especially vibrant ones, make me feel good and they allow me to express myself in my designs. You and I may not agree on what colors are the prettiest for our homes, and that’s okay. I do hope though, that I can inspire you today to add more color to your home. I tend to gravitate towards white walls with rustic elements such as brick, and stained wood. These characteristics allow me to add color in where I desire without making things look too busy. Today it’s all about how to “Transform Your Living Room with Vibrant Colors”. Get ready for some serious color.
First, our new vibrant area rug (view sources below). I fell instantly in love with all the different shades of blue, purple and pink in this beautiful rug. I knew it would flow nicely next to my blue velvet sofa. Then, I toned it down a bit with the grey velvet bench (view sources below).
Maybe you recognize the thrifty gold glass coffee table? Directions on how I achieved that look is below. Same goes for the thrifty blue lamp that I found for $5.
But, what about those throw pillows and that fancy window pane mirror? The pillows I ordered on-line for under $20 each and I picked colors by looking at the colors in the rug. The mirror was an in-store purchase and all of the information on the pillows and the mirror is listed below.
You’re getting a sneak peek at the freshly painted mantel & brick in this view below. That’s coming up as soon as I finish painting our built-in shelves on either side of the fireplace.
Together, it all really transforms our front living room into a vibrant, cozy, and maybe even romantic space full of character and depth. In other words, it’s not boring.
Would you be willing to try such vibrant colors in your home? I’m not sure where my courage comes from, but possibly stems from childhood. I had a purple tricycle my grandmother gave me and purple has always been one of my favorite colors. It just goes so peacefully with blues, and pinks. I just love it so much I could photograph it all day.
I love how the wedding dress on the mantel behind me tones it all down as well. It’s very feminine and my husband said he was fine with it. In fact when he first saw the rug he said, “Now that is beautiful!”
We love the rug so much that we switched out the blue runner for the same design. You can really see how deep the pinks, blues, and purples are in this photo below…
Then, later I realized that my thrift store rainbow glass shelf really matches the new area rug. That happened without me planning it, so now I know why I liked the rug so much.
I love rainbows. So, maybe that’s the trick with color.
What do you “LOVE”? Whatever it is, go with it and forget what everyone else does.

WOW! Gorgeous!
Thank you, Carol!!
Julie, each of these rooms is stunning! I am a neutrals/nature gal myself but this just makes me happy! Absolutely wonderful!
Hi Nancy! I am happy to know that someone that enjoys neutrals can still see why I enjoy this. Thanks for stopping by! Have a nice weekend ?
Great job Julie!!! Love love love the rug and runner; those colors are awesome! Everything goes perfectly together.
Thank you, Carol! I know it’s pretty loud, but since I’m quiet maybe it evens it out ?
Tres chic Friend! Love the new look!!!!!!!!!!! My color is RED! and too much of it can be overpowering. For years, and do mean years, I wanted the entry foyer and leading upstairs done in red. Couldn’t do it, til I told myself you’re not getting younger (ha), and if you’re going to make this happen, JUST DO IT! ha Higher my painter and made it happen and guess what? I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! yes! wished I done it sooner!! I have pops of red everywhere along with hubby’s favorite color of purple! On similar note, had two loveseats bought new and over time they had to be redone or let go. The bones were good, and a good manufacturer, so I had them both reupholstered in this really bold floral fabric which really jumps out at you when entering the room…….again, I LOVE IT! I have so many spray cans of paint like crayons in a box Friends – always doing something with them…….if you’re afraid, which I understand, then start ever so small and gradually progress to where you really want to be!! =-)
Hi Julie! Red is a very powerful color that shows strength ?. It also reminds me of love ❤️
I’m in love with your home! I’m about to purchase a new home and jewel tones are my inspiration for the decor. I love your sofa in the living room and I’m curious about how comfy it is. We have an extremely big comfortable Sectional in the family room so I want something different for the living room and before purchasing from Amazon I just wanted to ask about your sofa. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you!
Hi Heather! This sofa is the most comfortable sofa I ever owned! It truly is a dream. In fact, my 19 year old just slept on it last night!
Hi Julie:
Just love the coffee table. I have a lot of chrome, do you think I could use silver spray on a metal? Your colors are beautiful, it makes a white room pop!
Hope your snow is melting, ours is just about gone here in Vancouver, B.C.
Cheers, Bette
Good morning, Bette! We just got 6.5 inches, but it’s getting up to 40 today so I think it will knock it down hopefully! Yes you can spray anything!
The rug is amazing. I wasn’t too taken with the bright couch until you put it with this new rug. It’s perfect together. Looking forward to seeing the entire room.
I love these colors Cita
What a beautiful job you did, bringing this all together! I love the new rug and runner too, looks great! Bravo
Thank you, Kaycee! Big hugs!
WOW!!!!! What a great look. Was a little disappointed wanted to see the trike
WOW! How stunning. Love the bright lovely colors.
If that doesn’t cheer up a person when they come to your home then nothing will.
A happy, cheerful place to visit for sure.
Thank you, Colleen! We are having a big graduation party in June for our oldest. I’m hoping for a happy time, but I’ll probably be crying ?
Hi Julie, these bold colourful combinations made your rooms looking very modern and vivid. Love the colourful rug in the family room most as it acted as a focal point there. And Sylvia was there too. Looking forward to see more pics of Sylvia and Forest later. BTW, have a great graduation party on June!
Thank you, Sarah!!!
Love the colour of the rug..It goes so nicely with the couch. What did you do with the blue stair rug.?..that was a lovely rug as well. Jewel tones go so well together.
You have a great memory, Lorri! We pulled it out. I’m selling them at garage sale this Fall. 😉
As always, fabulous! Wow, just when I think you can not improve your home anymore, you go and prove me wrong. You just nailed it again. I would have NEVER been able to pull of of this together, and make it look dropped gorgeous. Magazines should be knocking on your door, at least calling you to display your designs.
