Colorful Spring Home Tour

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

I just glanced at the outdoor temperature on my cell phone and there’s a heat wave going on up here in Michigan 😯 .  It’s a whopping 33 degrees and the snow is melting.  Kind of.  It’s trying, it’s REALLY trying.  I sure hope Mother Nature gets the text message next week that Spring has arrived and it’s time to warm us up.  Until then, lets stay cozy indoors and visit some colorful Spring home tours, shall we?  I have just the place and it was created by my very talented former DIY contributor, Carrie from Lovely Etc. She was so kind to invite me to join her “Color Loving Spring Home Tour” that involves 20 creative homes of DIY decorating bloggers from all over.  I hope you enjoy my colorful Spring tour and please don’t forget to visit the remaining 19 bloggers at the end of this post.

Last Spring, I hung a black hook (upside down by choice) on the back of our mailbox so I could hang flowers there.  I didn’t really think about what I would hang there when the cold came, oops 😯 .  Then October finally showed up, so I filled it with real mini pumpkins for Fall, shiny red, green, and white ornaments for Christmas, and then red foil hearts for Valentine’s Day.  It seemed only natural to add some Easter eggs for Spring.  I wonder if my teens will want to do an Easter egg hunt this year?  Probably not.  Unfortunately, I think those days are over.  However, the good news is, they still love their Easter basket  😆 .

If you’ve visited my blog before, I’m sure you’ve must have seen the pretty tulip wreath I located last year.  You can read all about that here if you are interested: “Pink Tulip Wreath“.  I was going to fill the white thrifty end table with eggs too, but then I decided to add them to a galvanized tub on top.  The big ceramic bunny is from the thrift store.  Did you know I collect ceramic bunnies?  I hope to share them with you soon.

When you walk into our home you’re greeted with a large traditional style staircase.  This year I’m having fun with tons of color throughout our home, including on the staircase and when I saw this gorgeous vase at HomeGoods I had to have it.  No fresh flowers quite yet, but honestly I don’t think this vase needs them.  It shines all on it’s own, and it was under $20.  I love the pop of color(s).

Just last week if you missed it I shared how I added vibrant colors to our front living room.  Stay tuned for the built-ins I painted white and the fireplace to go with them.  It’s quite a shocker!

TIP:  An easy way to add color to your home without buying a thing is with colorful decorating catalogs.  This season’s Pottery Barn catalog is so gorgeous I knew as soon as I saw it that I would put it on our thrift store glass coffee table.  Maybe you missed that post about the 1980’s coffee table I found at he thrift store?  If so, you can read all about how I brought it up to date to fit into our home today.

Here’s another fresh colorful Spring thrift store idea that I created with mostly thrift store colored glass.  Check out how the shelf matches the runner on our stairs in the background.  I noticed that by chance and thought well maybe I do have a theme going here.

“Thrift Store Rainbow Ombre Glass Display”

I couldn’t help but snap a photo of our rescue kitten, Forest, has he sat on our colorful runner.  Details about the rug/runner are the bottom of this post.

Since I can’t go outside and cut fresh flowers for our home yet, I decided to add a splash of bright color to our kitchen island with this darling striped cutting board.  You know how some people have a shoe fetish?  Well, I certainly have a cutting board fetish.  I have way too many, but this is definitely one of my favorites.  Just look how pretty it looks up against my mixing bowls.  Shop both products on my Amazon shopping page found here: SHOP

While I was finishing up the photo shoot for this Spring tour, I noticed how pretty this antique afghan looked on my grandfather’s chair.  Even a blanket, throw, or afghan can add color to your home without spending a dime.  I love the colors up against black.  The fabric I used for the chair seat my oldest daughter picked out and the information is also listed below.

Lastly, you can see here in our cozy bedroom how I added a deep navy blue velvet pillow to the front of the neutral pillows and it really brings out the blue in our beautiful American flag on the wall.  By the way…in case you noticed those pretty burlap pillows on our bed I am having a huge burlap pillow giveaway on my blog right now.  Just click HERE to see what that is all about.
