To be very honest, I don’t usually decorate for St. Patrick’s Day 😖. Even though I truly am an Irish redhead, we don’t really celebrate as much as we use to back in the college days. Believe it or not though, I do love beer and Reuben Sandwiches are my favorite, but I don’t need March 17th to roll around to enjoy those. This pretty Irish/St. Patrick’s Day Green Scrunched Tissue Paper Tree just kind of happened by chance this year. Let me explain…

Last week, when I shared how we transformed our tiny dormer space upstairs, I mentioned how our college age kids are home with us doing their classes virtually during the pandemic.

Well…this is the room they spend a ton of their time working late (or chatting with friends on line). We actually call this space our Zen Lounge and it just got a makeover here. You have got to see those sliding wood doors!

I just didn’t have the heart to put this silver tree away because the kids put it on every night just like it’s a lamp. It totally sets the mood, and is just comforting, you know?

How to make a Simple Minty Green Scrunched Tissue Paper Tree

Seriously, all it took to make this minty tree look pretty was different shades of green tissue paper. Once you pick your colors (I used light mint green, kelly green, dark green, silver, and dark grey), just grab the tissue paper and pretend you’re going to throw it in the trash, but then stick it inside the tree. What I found interesting is that this scrunched up tissue paper looked almost like flowers in the tree. Can you see it?

Either way…I hope you smiled when you saw it, and I bet you want a mint now. Here’s a shamrock on me (click arrow on tree)!

Your tree looks so pretty and festive, Julie! I totally understand the kids turning on the tree for the ambiance. I did the same thing when my tree was up and if my home were bigger, I would probably leave it up year-round (or close to it!).

I totally get the coziness you don’t want to take away from your kiddos; Christmas lights really should stay up all year:) And we are definitely reuben lovers all year around over here. For St patty’s day I made corned beef and that cabbage/mashed potato combo; yum! And we’re not even Irish; but we love their food!
