I am excited to announce that I was recently invited to join a home decorating thrift store group. What this means is I will be sharing affordable thrift store ideas more often, yippee! So, buckle up, and get ready for some frugal fun with some amazing friends of mine (all of their projects are located at the end of this post). First up, I went all out with a mix of glam, country, and cozy in our new dining room for our Thanksgiving celebration this year. I hope you enjoy, “Our Beautiful Thrifted Thanksgiving Tablescape” that literally cost me under $30 to create, using a few thrifted/new finds, and the rest was shopped from my home stash, including our dried up landscaping 😊…

What I Scored at The Thrift Store for our Thanksgiving Table
I can’t deny it, I was so excited to get a message from my dear friend, Kristin from “My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia” inviting me into this thrift store group. It’s been a while since I collaborated with other home decorating bloggers, and quite frankly I thought those days were over. Things have changed for the blogging community since AI, but some of us well established bloggers are still here and we hope you continue to stick with us so we can keep sharing our ideas with you. Okay, so let’s see what I managed to find at the good ole local thrift store…
My husband sat in the truck working by phone while I “moseyed” on in not knowing if I would be quick, or take a few hours 😆. I knew I wanted to create a thrifty Thanksgiving table, but didn’t know quite where to begin. I lucked out and found a gorgeous golden brown tablecloth that even had “fall foliage” on it for $3.99.

A few minutes later I noticed these square clear glass votive candle holders that screamed, “Hey, Julie! Can you picture us scattered on that tablecloth?” I struggled because I knew I already had round ones, but I did it anyway…

Next up, I found one single faux leaf stem that was a bit dusty and pricey in my opinion-wow prices have really gone up on artificial foliage, but I gave away my old ones, so I went for it. I ended up washing the entire piece in hot soap water and a little dye came out which actually made them look less faux-who knew? That was it for the thrift store, but I felt like my vision was developing and I had a good start.

What I Found in Our Dried Up Landscaping for Our Thanksgiving Table
The following week my husband had to go out of town for a few days for work. I am not a fan of that I must tell you…I am rather attached to Rick, and I get a bit anxious. Thank goodness I have amazing kiddos, and two wonderful sisters who text/visit, and we even had a sleep over one night 😊.
So, while Rick was gone the dryer gave me a notification that the “vent” should be checked. Doesn’t that always happen when the vent guy is out of town, ha ha. Well, I put on my big girl pants and went out in the cold to see what was up. While out there, I was completely inspired by our dried up Hydrangeas. How moly…it was exactly what would bring the thrift store table together, and incorporate the beautiful natural elements of the outdoors for free. I grabbed scissors and took a bunch of these dried Hydrangeas inside….

Getting Started and Trying to Figure Out the Thrifty Thanksgiving Tablescape
Alrighty, you know what time it is…my favorite time-decorating time. My furry companion was obviously up for the challenge and fell in love with the soft thrift store table cloth that had been freshly washed and dried 😊. Okay little recused Rosie, time to move over honey, so I can see if these Hydrangeas are going to jive or not…

The Beautiful Thrifted Thanksgiving Tablescape Tour
Rosie and I had a wonderful time setting the table a little early for just the four of us this Thanksgiving. In actuality we will be having two more guests this year 😃 (my dad who is 91 now, and my lovely sister, who both moved back to Michigan this past summer.) Here’s a first look at the table all pulled together…

Let’s take a closer look at that almost free centerpiece bursting with fresh dried Hydrangeas from our yard. I should tell you that a very sweet follower on my Facebook page mentioned that spraying the dried blooms with hairspray can help them stay intact. I don’t plan on keeping these for long, but this tip is good to know. As you might be able to see the artificial colorful leaves I found at the thrift store gave the bouquet a more complete look with even a cute apple 😉. Oh, and the curvy “country” Italian white pitcher? My husband found that at the thrift store many years ago and let me tell you…we call it the “most killer thrift store find ever”!

You may have noticed that I opted not to drape the tablecloth over the table in a traditional fashion, but to simply “gather” it across the center of the table to add softness, and a backdrop for the decor (this also helps with putting hot dishes on the table on Thanksgiving). I have never been a fan of just a flat table cloth, so this is a fun way to mix things up.
As you can see, the little votives add sparkle and warmth, but allow our glam chandelier to shine like she should. If I told you how many hours it took Rick and I to clean that crystal pendant chandelier after we moved in last year, you would be laughing. We thought about replacing it instead 😆, but now I absolutely love it, especially with a dimmer.

A Few More Thrift Store Scores…
Before I go and lead you to visit my talented thrift store team mates, I wanted to let you know that I found the big Peony “painting” on top of the antique cabinet at the thrift store about a year ago. I also combine my mother’s beautiful 1970’s milk glass with thrift store milk glass to create a beautiful display inside the antique cabinet my husband and I found on Facebook Marketplace for $100. I polished up the cabinet, and we replaced the glass (did you know you can order pre-cut glass on line?) and fell in love with how it brings out the warm tones in our farmhouse dining table that Rick completely stripped and refinished back at the old house. I must admit, I am diggin this rather elegant, not overly decorated room…

I sure hope you enjoyed the Thrifted Thanksgiving Tablescape adventure as much as Rosie and I did. When Rick got home after his work trip his exact words were, “That is beautiful, Julie.”

Thank you, Marianne! Love that we are in this group together!!
Julie,
I’m thrilled that you have joined our monthly tour!
Your thrifted Thanksgiving tablescape is perfectly simple. I love the hydrangeas in that gorgeous Italian white pitcher. Here in Kentucky, they still have color; mine hasn’t faded quite yet.
Pinned!

Hi Julie, You scored on that tablecloth! It was obviously meant to be. The table setting is lovely and I can smell the food from here. Have a wonderful holiday and congrats on joining your new thrifting group. Making memories with new friends. How wonderful.

Thank you so much, Diane!
I feel like I just had a conversation with you, Julie, about the thrill of creating a thrifty Thanksgiving table! Interesting to see the ‘glam’ side of this holiday!
Best, and Happy Thanksgiving, Sandra
Thank you for stopping by, Sandra!
Hi Julie and Rick:
Happy Thanksgiving early. Love everything you’ve done for your holiday and love the way you folded the tablecloth, I might do that for Christmas! No womder Rick said,”That’s beautiful”. You mentioned your Mom’s peony painting, I went shopping with my Mom years ago and we found my peony painting, I look at that every day and think of her. Love the picture of the sunset with the hydrangeas. So happy for you both.
Hugs, Bette
Now we have the Peony connection too! Thanks for stopping by, I know you already had your TG! Sending hugs to you, Joe, and your beautiful children!
