Yippee! Fall is in full swing here in SE Michigan, and the first frost advisory tonight is proof! With that being said, I really wanted to create a warm, cozy family room for my husband and I, to feel all those lovely, soothing, autumn vibes. You see, not only do we enjoy taking naps in this room while the fire is blazing, but we also enjoy our favorite DIY shows, Buffalo Bill football games, and even an occasional round of crazy eights 😉. Even though this nest is empty, we still keep livin’, I still keep decorating, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! So, not only do I hope you enjoy my recent post… “Visit our Beautiful Michigan Fall Family Room Tour“, I hope you’ll subscribe to my free newsletter so you will receive this year’s holiday decorating which includes a free fresh wreath giveaway 😲!

The Lighting for our Fall Family Room Tour
First and foremost, the lighting has always been the most important part of helping me create the atmosphere I desired for our home. No matter what season it is, the lighting sets the mood, and changes the ambiance with such ease. For example, if I were to turn on all of the recessed lighting we have in our family room for these photos I took for you, the warm soft feeling from the glowing holiday bulbs would have competition and be lost. By the way, here’s where I found these almost invisible daytime clear wire orange lights: CLICK HERE FOR LIGHTS.

Go Over Board with Cozy Fresh Washed Blankets & Cute Pillows
Okay, time to get real and even a little scary…one of my biggest pet peeves is when our comfy “throws” don’t smell fresh on our sofa, chairs, etc.. I have experienced first hand being at someone’s home (I will not mention any names 😆) and the house looked so nice, but the blankets didn’t match. I probably wash/dry ours more than I should, but I don’t care. I dare you to go check yours right now…let me know how it goes 🎃 (TIP: WASH ON DELICATE IN WARM WATER AND DRY ON LOW HEAT.)

Empty Nester Fun Tricks to Make the Kids Laugh When they Visit
We might be empty nesters, but our amazing, adult children are obviously on our minds just as much as they were when they lived under the same roof. It absolutely blows my mind how I began writing this blog when they were still in elementary school. Now…both are living on their own, both professionals, and both incredible humans in all aspects. Before I start crying, I better get to the point…when they come over for a visit I like to freak them out 😆. This year we bought a 10 foot skeleton for the front lawn (we haven’t put it together yet-yikes) for when they come over for our annual pumpkin carving contest. I can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they see that big guy-I hope it takes them back to the times when they were little when mom & dad did everything they could to bring fun into there lives even though life was hard at times ❤️.
Here’s a few more photos to enjoy from the front porch…”Sal” is my long time skeleton buddy who has become part of the family!

Happy Halloween from our family to yours!
