How to Create a Colorful Casual Summer Apartment Balcony

Do you remember earlier this summer when I shared our “Romantic Botanical Balcony” with you? Well, we are still enjoying that little private oasis as much as possible, but I’m excited to tell you that I have yet another balcony to share with you before the summer gets away. You see, our grown kiddos live right down the hall in their very own apartment. When they saw what I did to our balcony, they seemed a little jealous ๐Ÿ˜†. Well, mom can’t be having that, so I asked if they wanted me to decorate their little outdoor patio, too! I’m happy to say they said, “Heck yah!” So, here’s the latest, and last summer makeover “How to Create a Colorful Casual Summer Apartment Balcony”…

The above BEFORE photo is actually of our balcony (which is the same as the kid’s) before I bought new outdoor furniture for our “Romantic Botanical Balcony“. I was going to try to sell this modern set that I bought on line, but then figured I should use it down at balcony #2 ๐Ÿ˜Š. By the way…I purchased the table from Wayfair a couple years ago, and it arrived broken. Wayfair issued me a refund, so I used the money to buy a custom made tabletop on Etsy to cover up the cracked tabletop. All we had to do was glue the new resin tabletop on and it made a very unique table for our breakfast nook for years at the old house. Well, now the table and chairs have a brand new home on the kid’s balcony…

Anyone in the mood for more sunshine and maybe an orange? When planning how to decorate the kid’s outdoor space (who are 23 & 21 years old ๐Ÿ˜ฒ) I knew they would appreciate a more colorful, casual summer apartment balcony. A place to chillax in the sun, ya know? The thing was, I had to keep in mind that the table top was a bit on the busy side, so I wanted to tone that down, while also incorporating fresh modern colors that are trending more these days (think 1970’s). What I found, was that neutrals really toned down everything, and pulled it all together (win-win).

In all honesty, both Daphne and Bo are very busy working and with friends, so they really don’t sit out here often, but guess who can sneak down the hall (it’s 56 steps I counted), and visit if she wants to…you guessed it, Mama (and pop of course โ™ฅ๏ธ).

Pull up a chair and relax…if you’re interested in the woven rattan “hanging” light fixture you can read all about it at Our Cozy Bohemian Outdoor Happy Place post. I like to reuse things as much as possible, and this easy to hang solar light over the table really brings it all together, and brings in the cozy especially when it lights up on it’s own at night. Absolutely Gorgeous Crochet Tassel Curtains for the Colorful Casual Summer Apartment Balcony

My absolute favorite new purchase decor item for the balcony are the stunning, and I mean STUNNING, crochet curtains that absolutely blew us away when we saw them. I’ve got to tell you that they are very high quality, and I think they make the balcony? I used 4 panels total, and we hung them very carefully with a regular curtain rod. I totally recommend these curtains for inside or out. My kiddos love how they let the sunlight in, but they provide plenty of privacy. Here’s where to find the exact curtains:

By the way, the placemats & yellow tassel pillows are from Garden Ridge (Michigan). The orange pot our daughter bought at Meijer which is a grocery store here in Michigan.

Lastly, let’s let the sunshine in, ok? Winter is brewing, and we need all the vitamin D we can get. When I searched for something to hang on the utility door to make it look more like a wall, I just could not resist this colorful sun canvas. Sunset, sunrise, whatever you’re into, this one is worth the price. Here’s the canvas information:

Fabulous idea about the curtains on your patio. I went though my fabric stash and found white
fabric and ordered a Amazon curtain rod. My plants are burning up on my small front porch. So I am going to make a curtain to shade the plants during this horrible hot weather here in central Texas. Thanks for sharing this idea!
