3 Important Features Not to Overlook When Searching for Your Home

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Hello, there! I’ve been missing in action lately 😚, so I hope I haven’t worried anyone who follows along here at redheadcandecorate.com. After the loss of my beloved mom in September, I decided to take some much needed time off. I was definitely “due” for a break, and I am using my time wisely searching daily for our next home that will be documented here on redheadcandecorate.com. I must say, the hunt is very exciting, but also exhausting. During the search for the perfect home, I have learned not only what Rick and I truly desire in our final home, but I think it will be helpful to many folks who are searching as well. With that being said, here are “3 Important Features Not to Overlook When Searching for Your Home”.

Important Feature #1 Not to Overlook When Searching for Your Home: Front Porch We Can Both Sit On Comfortably

I took this photo in the rain while recently visiting an open house not too far from us. I just love that cute porch, and color scheme. This is a new build, and la little pricy for us, but the interest rates on some new builds are better than fixer uppers. I’ve always dreamed of sitting on a front porch sipping me tea with my husband. We hopefully will find the right one, soon.

Important Feature #2 Not to Overlook When Searching for Your Home: Open Floor Plan with Kitchen Open to Family Room

I love to cook (find my food blog recipe section here), and the second most important feature for our forever home is for me (or him) to be able to prep our meals with my husband close by in front of the fire. No separate hide-a-way kitchen allowed for us old folks πŸ˜‰. I love the light fixtures, and the backsplash in that kitchen.

Important Feature #3 Not to Overlook When Searching for Your Home: Private Back Yard with Sunset

What better way to end the day than with your loved one(s) by your side (or close to your heart) watching the sun set β˜€οΈ . One of the biggest mistakes we made in our last home was not paying attention to where the sun sets according to our back yard. Now, as a current experienced “home searcher” I only look at homes where the sun sets in the back.

While we continue the search I will certainly let you know if we make a decision. In the mean time I will be sharing a very colorful late summer balcony I just made over for our grown kiddos. Also, fall is fast approaching so I’m planning a breath-taking “Fall Living Room” transformation complete with a wall mural, and dollar store candle display that will knock your flannel off πŸ˜†.

Here’s a couple photos of me and my love on a recent summer night out at our favorite Italian restaurant. As you can see, the bread basket was empty and I was quite happy, lol. XO

Stay tuned for my next post next week~

Along with the three you listed, i have 2 more equally if not more important: 1)an attached garage to actually keep the car in & avoid clearing snow and ice (i’m in NH) and 2) proximity of car to kitchen to get the groceries inside without traipsing through the whole house with heavy bags. (i had a split ranch with no access to kitchen door, which meant going up two half flights of stairs from driveway entry & through living room to far side of kitchen where the counters were. 😝 Exhausting! Did i mention gallon size milk jugs?!

It will be fun to follow your house hunt. We downsized 4 years ago and love our smaller, but not tiny, home. One more thing you may want to consider is seeking lots of light. Our dining room has 2 walls of windows that let us view the lawn and garden. it is my favorite room. For those of us who live in the oh too often cloudy, gray Michigan/Indiana area light is treasured.
