So, how much turkey did you eat?
I was a good girl and didn’t over do it.
My hubby, on the other hand, is a different story.
When I glanced over at his plate, I noticed that his stuffing mountain seemed extra large this year.
His potatoes looked a bit like Mt. Everest!
I didn’t say anything because, well, he’s entitled.
The poor guy paid for it all night.
I bet he won’t do that next year.
Who am I trying to kid? Of course he will 😉

Now that the turkey is out of the way, it’s time to talk Christmas.
I’ve mentioned before that I am not much of a mantel decorator.
I’m not sure if it intimidates me, or bores me.
Either way, this year I went for it.
One thing led to another and it became all about
“Vintage Christmas Decor”.
What do you think?
Lets start with the Christmas sign.
I was inspired by Pottery Barn once again.
I loved the vintage look, but not the $129 price tag.
I also didn’t feel like doing stencils, or the same word.
So instead, I used card board letters from Hobby Lobby, and came up with my word.
Total cost: $22.00
I painted them a deep red, and attached them with velcro so they can turn to display the sign vertically if I want.
I’m thinking “Happy Birthday” would fit too if I want to try that later.
I would only need a couple more letters.
The board is from Home Depot, and cost $16.
I stained it first so it would have more of a vintage look.
Then I painted over the stain while being sure not to cover it completely.
Then I added whatever “Vintage Christmas Decor” I could find.
The santa spoon rest was a recent find at a thrift store.
The vintage Christmas lights I had from our very first home.
I attached them with black brackets.
I’ve always loved the old lights, but I am very careful never to leave them unattended.
I inherited quite a few Christmas decorations from my parents because of my love of decorating.
I knew my Dad’s sock stocking would go perfect.
I added a striped sock from my little Valerie’s sock drawer.
The furry traditional stockings I also had.
The Santa Claus candy holder and bells were my Grandfather’s.
The vintage green bulb (below) was also his, and I’m told it came from Germany.
I actually keep it out all year because I love it so much.
My hubby went out in our yard and cut some pine tree limbs.
The rest of the ornaments are from my childhood as well.
Now go get yourself a board and pick your word!

This is so neat! I love how the sign turned out. It reminds me of an old sign at a Christmas tree stand! Everything came together really well! hugs, Leena
I love it Julie! I’m one of those (kind) that looks at the price of something cute and then says I can make that myself. The only problem is if I don’t save the page or take a pic of it right away – I’ll forget I ever saw it – lol!
This is fantastic, Julie! The sign is just perfect and I love the old lights…I remember those!! Everything looks so homey and vintage, you really did a great job!
XO,
Jane
I love your entryway table decorated for christmas that was posted on interest. Are there lights in the bottom of the lanters or rather is it just a reflection of shiny ornaments?
Those are Christmas lights I stuck in the bottom of the lantern.
Gorgeous! WOW this looks like it could be on a cover of a magazine this Holiday season!

I have even shown your home photos to my husband, and he thinks your style is great. so…I hope you are reassured that your efforts are appreciated and admired.
