I’m happy to tell you guys that we are all moved into our new temporary apartment, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Now, although we are moved in, that does not mean we are unpacked π. We still have a ton of organizing to do, but I just needed to get in a little decorating after all of the stress lately. I have 2 fantastic products below that I completely recommend and then a recipe you can use maybe even today. I hope you enjoy our 2 new modern apartment accessories…
Black & White Modern Area Rug Runner
I’m slowing figuring out how to live in a much smaller space, and realizing that it pretty much comes down to letting things go. I feel as though we were literally burying ourselves in that big house, and I’m thankful we are out. Now I have a clean slate, and can try to minimize how we live. If you missed the tour of our apartment, click here to see it: APARTMENT TOUR. Here’s my new cooking station that desperately needed a rug. I wanted something fun, different, and modern.
I saw this very interesting “woven” indoor/outdoor washable runner and loved the pattern against our horizontal laminate wood floors. It’s playful geometric lines give me that modern vibe, with a splash of “boho”. I’ve always been a big fan of black and white, so I just couldn’t resist…
I placed it on the kitchen floor and we both loved it’s clean cool look, however there was one problem. This rather thick cotton woven runner had a mind of it’s own so it needed something to keep it grounded. So, I remembered I had an extra pack of “rug grippers” that I could add to the 4 corners of the runner underneath. Have you ever tried them? They work EXCELLENT, and are way easier than anything else I have tried, because you can wash the rug with them on it π².

Double Wall Glass Insulated Stackable Coffee Mugs
Okay, so now that we have the coolest runner in the apartment complex, I needed some new coffee mugs because I’m tired of the old hairlined stained ones I have uses for about 100 years π. Time for a coffee mug facelift. Check out this gorgeous double insulated clear glass beauty…
I love how the cup matches my “glam” acrylic/glass coffee table. This all makes me feel rather chic, lol. I’m actually not chic, but sometimes it’s fun to be a little chic, ya know? I stack 4 of these right on our new counter next to our mini-Keurig. They are super light for my dainty hands & wrists, and my husband’s exact words “I love how you can see the creamer being poured into the coffee-it looks refreshing”. Bingo…these babies rock.
PS: I actually use these for tea as well. Soup is next!

I think Iβd fall over dizzy from your new crazy but cool rug π
Yikes! So far so good for me!
We too moved from our big house of 43 years and wow, what a lot of stuff we had! Because the sale was so fast, people wanted quick possession, and,as you know how this goes, βstuffβ was not nearly as organised as it should have been. The βoh, I might need thatβ and β those are painting pants β was crazy! So, we quickly packed up, and I thought we did a good job of it, but I still find clothes in odd places, drawers etc. We moved to a rental that wound up being totally open concept, totally colors and finishes I never would have chosen, and almost twice the size of our βold big house (100yrs) old. Itβs been 2 yrs, and I now know we really need to thin out. Iβve gotten to like the Colorβs, made a few changes, found we really love ikea, itβs not just for college students. Like you, I think, Iβve enjoyed the experience. Iβve enjoyed watching you change it up. Good luck!
Yes!!! Painters pants! Rick makes fun of my βjean pileβ. Letβs just say I have jeans that are back in style again from 1990 π
We downsized 4 years ago. I love the feel I have after purging! I find our smaller, open home much easier to clean! I can totally understand how you feel.
Iβve worn the same nail color youβre wearing for years! I receive many compliments!
Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy that open setting, Nancy! We are planning on an open floor plan for our next adventure. And how neat that we share the same color!
LoL I love the comment he made about how you can see the creamer being poured into the coffee π. It truly is all about the creamer!
Be happy in your new temp space and itβs exciting to follow you on your new adventure!!
I totally agree, Marcy! & Thank you!
Enjoying your journey from the ” big house ” to the modern apartment . We also downsized 4 years ago to a smaller beach house and purged. The only thing I really miss ( but didn’t think I would ) is our formal dining room. Looking forward to seeing the development of your apartment as it evolves.
Thank you, Ella!!
Love that rug! I did get one of the washable rugs and love it! We have 2 senior dogs so it was really a God send. Have washed the 8 x 10 rug 5 times and it just comes out perfect every time. We just downsized to a small home and I am changing my whole style. I want a black and off white rug but with more off white. Doing the Scandinavian look and the rug is the last big thing. Like you the scaling down of everything has been so refreshing. Kids have taken most of it with rest donated or sold. Thank you for everything you share it is so inspiring!
That is fantastic! Good for you, Vickie!
Hey there My Friend:
Now don’t you go “Swirley” on me with that rug, really a great design. The mugs are so cool, going to try and find some ion Amazon.
Glad you both are enjoying your apartment. You mention that your new home will be an open space. We love our kitchen family room, but we have a seperate living room.
I am having a birthday dinner for Joe on the 22nd and I’m making your Chicken Loretta, it has never failed me. Yum!
Take it easy and have fun!.
Hugs, Bette
