Ruby Red Nail Polish Painted Jar

My older sister Carolyn painted her nails constantly.  If she wasn’t on the phone with her boyfriend, or baking him brownies, she was on her bed painting those very long nails.  She is 7 years older than me, so you can imagine how I would admire her and her “painting skills”.  Occasionally, she would paint mine, and that was the best.  In fact, here’s a photo of us 4 siblings the day before my wedding right after she finished painting my nails.  That’s me on the left, then my other older sis, Diane, my brother, Bobby (deceased), and the nail polish queen, Carolyn.  I bet you a million bucks her nails are shining like rose petals right this second, still.  So, yes, I have a history with nail polish.  While painting the jar with it last weekend it brought back all of those memories.  Maybe I should have titled this “Carolyn’s Ruby Red Nail Polish Painted Jar”?

Since it is Valentine’s Day today, I thought a Ruby Red Nail Polish Painted Jar would be so pretty with some white tulips, and I think I “nailed” it.

Okay, so before you think I’ve lost my marbles, I originally planned on painting a thrift store vase only.  While in the middle of that, I thought about the jar and forgot to take photos of the process with the jar, but painting the jar is done in the exact same way.

After I cleaned and dried my vase/jar, I painted the rim so it would be even and make a nice edge.

Next,  I added an entire bottle of dollar store red nail polish to the vase/jar.  Including the tiny balls that come in it.  I swirled the paint around just by rotating the vase and the little tiny balls did a great job of covering it all.  There was left over paint at the bottom, so I poured that back into the nail polish bottle, and closed the lid tight.

WARNINGS:

Keep nail polish away from children and pets.  Nail polish is extremely flammable.  Do not let it get near any heat source.  Do not pour into a rag because it can combust.  Additionally, while painting open a window and have plenty of ventilation.  This smelled really strong, so a mask is a great idea as well.

TIP:

Let the vase/jar dry in a well ventilated area away from heat sources for at least 2 days.

After your vase/jar is completely dry, you can fill it with water & flowers.  I chose white tulips and baby’s breath because I thought the contrast of white against the ruby red would be so cute for Valentine’s Day.  Roses would be stunning.
