The automatic double doors slid open at my local Salvation Army, and I slid in like a sly fox on the prowl.
And there it was! Shining like a gold star in the furniture maze I so often visit. There was no way this gold portable gem was not taken yet? I looked right, I looked left. No one. I checked for the tags and all it said was…
wait for it…
$15.00!
Say what? I saw this one on The Home Decorators Collection website for $249.00. I’ve seen some at Ballard Design for $600.00. Yikes.
I ripped off the tag immediately and combed the rest of the joint quickly. I couldn’t wait to get it home and play. So, we got in line, I paid, and then we were on our way out to grab the cart to take to the car, and some bearded gentleman was pushing my gold cart!
My heart sank, and I said, “Is that your cart?” He said, “No honey, I just need to move it to get to that couch.” I laughed a bit too hysterically and my daughters looked a tad embarrassed, but I was relieved.
So, we wheeled that sucker out to the car and I plopped her in the garage for a couple months because it was close to the holidays, and things were crazy. The holidays came and went, and I became a bit frustrated because I didn’t really have a spot for it in our home unless I removed something.
Then my friend Sharon (see Sharon’s book below) posted a pin that showed a bar cart being used for a “portable office”. It was perfect for me because I tend to move my “blogging stuff” all over the house even though I have this office (see photos here). Having a “portable office” would make things so much easier. Having a “Gold Portable Office” would make things pretty, too. It could be my little side kick office!
{besides…who really uses those beverage carts anyways???}

Check out all of the “supplies” I can fit on there. Everything from my wine tea to my business cards. It’s all snug as a bug on this cool gold cart. If you’re interested in buying the “Pillow.” I designed, click HERE.

The best part…I can roll this baby all over the house. If company comes over and I need my work to disappear, I can swoosh it back into my office, and then swoosh it back after they leave. This makes it so much easier than carrying everything.
I can move it in front of my window, or I can move it by my bed if I’m sick. Heck, I can even roll it out on our deck when it warms up (no picture for that yet, sorry).
If you had one of these gold carts, what would you use it for?
The lovely friend who inspired me to make this “Gold Portable Office” is Sharon from the blog Mrs. Hine’s Class. I hope you will pop over and read all about Sharon’s new book, “Creating Success at Home” or check out the book here directly: Creating Success at Home.

I am jealous of your fabulous gold cart! I’m still looking so that I can have a portable office, too.
Thank you for sharing my book!
You are so welcome, Sharon!!!
I want that cart!! How come I never find really cool stuff in thrift stores?? That’s an excellent use for your cart, but mine would need to be a bar cart, lol. 😉
You’re hilarious, Lisa! Love ya. Hope that “bug” is gone!! Oh, and the mouse!!
What a find and it was a steal at $15!! Love the idea to use it as a mobile office!

Lol ……love reading your posts. Well across the water in london, these trolley’s (this is what we call them) are getting very fashionable, just a few months ago my friend found one but it certainly wasn’t a bargain like yours ….£350.00 she paid for it just because it had smoked glass in it!
Your’s looks fantastic – a great find.
Oh my goodness, Helga! This has smoked glass, too!
I had that same gold cart a few years ago and got rid of it.Wish I had it back now! LOL It would make an excellent back patio snack cart in summer!
Maybe this is your cart, Linda! lol
Wow, the cart is gorgeous! The mere fact that ou didn’t have to do anything with it is surprising for $15. I looks like a real gem to roll around to each area of your house. It was uncanny that Mrs. Hines thought of using your cart for a classroom because being a teacher myself, that’s exactly what I was thinking! Beautiful find, Julie.
I’m a teacher, too. Or I was! Great idea!!!
Brilliant, simply brilliant, Julie! I’m now on the prowl for my own office. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, Laurie!
That was an amazing find Julie! I have been looking on Ebay for a trolley like that. They are so expensive but not as nice. I was after one for my booze & decanter& glasses. I had to settle for a plain clinical white IKEA one.
Wow! You scored! Great idea! Adorable! Your too funny! Very entertaining!
