Do you have fond memories of your grandma’s cooking?
Both of my grandmas were good cooks, and many of my memories from their houses include sitting around the table laughing and enjoying a meal together. Many of the recipes on our site are old family recipes that came from either my grandmas or my husband’s grandmas. We’re talking solid comfort food.
This Sour Cherry Pie is hands-down not only my favorite cherry pie recipe, but my favorite pie recipe ever. It’s only 4 ingredients (not including the pie crust). Red tart cherries, sugar, minute tapioca and butter. Its’ one of the easiest pies to throw together. The result is a fabulous sweet & sour dessert that gets my taste buds movin’ just thinking about it!
My grandma used to make this pie often and that tradition now continues with my mom making it. I make it my fair share, too. 🙂
If you decide to use store-bought pie crust, you’ll have this pie ready in no time at all. I’m a homemade pie crust girl all the way. I grew up with homemade and will always make homemade. It’s totally worth the time in my opinion. You can find our recipe here. You guessed it….another Grandma recipe! Our secret is to use pastry flour with a combination of both butter and shortening for a flaky, deliciously flavored crust.
This sour cherry pie recipe is a classic for the upcoming summer months and patriotic holidays. My favorite way to eat it is lightly warmed with a scoop of classic vanilla ice cream on top. If you’ve been looking for the ideal cherry pie, look no further! If you try it, snap a picture, tag it with #tastesoflizzyt on Facebook or Instagram. I’d love to hear what you think!
