Welcome to my Summer front porch makeover!
Porches are very special places.
They deserve a little attention I think.
We greet our family & friends there.
We relax there and watch our children play.
We gather there with a cocktail and talk about our day.
Heck, we even receive flowers & pizzas there.
Come on guys…lets get her lookin’ fine again.
While on vacation in Niagara on the Lake I began to fantasize of ways to help our porch pop.
I wanted it to lean towards a “beachy” theme.
I began to think about what I had that would give it that feel.
I asked my hubby to help me move the Adirondack chairs out to the front.
The pop of color really put me in the mood to keep going.
I got our lantern out and used a chain to hang it just at the right level since I don’t have a table.
If you have a lot of indirect light Fern’s are pretty cheap. I paid $9.99 for this one.
Then I grew tired of the hose wreath. I love it, but I was ready for a change.

I decided to make a sign out of left over wood.
This is what I started with:
Then I beat it with a hammer, stained it, polyurethaned it and drilled holes for the twine.
Originally, I was going to stencil and paint an ice cream sign.
That became stressful because I was afraid I would mess it up.
I decided to try chalk.
It works just like a chalk board. No chalk board paint required folks!
I can wipe it and put whatever I want depending on the occasion.
This will be nice for birthday’s.
(ps the butterfly is a magnet that cost $1)
So now I felt as though I needed more color.
I’ve always loved pink flamingos.
I looked on E-Bay and found this metal one for $19, score!
She is darn cute.
Val wants her in her room. I said sure, after Summer 🙂
I then decided to spray paint this iron plant holder we found at an antique shop on vacation.
It was originally black.
I love it now.
Since the inspiration came from our vacation at Niagara on the Lake I decided to add a rock we found on Lake Ontario.
I painted it and added some shells Valerie found there with glue.
I also polyurethaned this so rain won’t hurt it.
The last step was replacing our carriage lights.
I found inexpensive replacements at Home Depot, and my Dad and I installed them.
The rug is from Target.
While out there taking photos of our porch I couldn’t resist a few shots of the flowers in bloom.
We have had a ton of rain so things are really healthy this year.
Sometimes a flower not quite in bloom is just as pretty…
We all love a pretty daisy!
Hope you enjoyed my “Summer Front Porch Makeover”.
You’ll find Red out there sipping wine tonight with hubby 🙂
Have a nice weekend, love ya~Chalk board sign, Front Porch, Pink Flamingo, Summer, Summer Front Porch Posted by
Isn’t my Daughter GREAT, love, Dad
Love but in my case Ill go red ………for some reason red does so much better in the country ….maybe a old wooden table destressed with black paint ………
The porch looks fantastic! Just adore your home!
Julie I love the pictures of your house!! I was wondering what color your wood shingles on your front porch. When we moved here our house was a very light blue (almost sky blue) and then we painted it grey. I have been looking for a country blue color and I love the color on your house. I love your site. Take care and have a great weekend.
Hi Jill! I just went down in the basement to check for you. There is no name on the darn can, and the numbers are faded. If you want I can send you a swatch I can paint. E-mail me your address @ email@example.com. It’s an awesome color and worked because of the blue in the brick. I was terrified it would clash, but it didn’t. It’s Behr Ultra from Home Depot and it looks periwinkle in person. XO
Great family photo showing off your “new” front porch! Perfect! Hugs, Leena
Your porch looks awesome…it has a great fun and beachy feel to it! I love ferns hanging on a porch…something so “Southern” about it! I just love everything!
Love your porch, just gorgeous, pinned 🙂
Nice job on your porch. I read your rock wrong and thought it said Viagra. Took a second to figure out what it really said. I guess I watch too many tv commercials
Now that is hilarious!!!!!
Julie…love looking at your projects….you r such an inspiration!!!! Wish I had some of that talent!!!! Xo
Your front porch looks beautiful and I thought it was too cute that your Dad commented as well – how sweet!!
I looks great!! My Mother In Law would LOVE that flamingo! Love the pops of color for Summer. Pinning!
So many cute details! I have a special place in my heart for flamingos too. I did a painting of one in high school and then ended up inadvertently collecting them because everybody gave me everything flamingo after that. 🙂 Love the wonderful family pictures too! You guys are ADORABLE!
