Welcome to my new pad guys!
Come on in, I have a treat for you 🙂
This is my first post on WordPress so I feel a little bit like a first grader learning how to read.
I have so much to learn, but I am confident I will get where I feel comfortable soon.
I am a quick learner!
Thank you so much for being so patient with me while I go through this transition.
There are several tweaks we are working on,
so if you see something that doesn’t work,
please just let me know.
Be sure to check out my new “Redhead Can Decorate” and “Redhead Can Cook” pages up above.
We worked really hard on those for you 🙂
Ok, enough small talk, lets go drool.
Oops, wrong pic…that was before.
Here is after.
I know what you’re thinking.
“Big Deal, it’s fruit with whipped topping”.
Not so fast slick!
Here’s the scoop.
When I was in 4th grade, one of my best friend’s grandfather taught me something I will never forget.
I was sitting with Jen’s family in their dining room after her Mom, Grandmother,
and Aunt, all spent hours preparing our yummy dinner.
It was time for dessert so they brought out some beautiful, ripe, strawberries, and some brown sugar.
Then something bizarre happened.
A big tub of sour cream made it’s way to the table.
Huh? What? Do they need glasses?
Um, where’s the cool whip people?
Grandpa looked at me quite seriously and said, “You should try it Julie.”
Well, when Jen’s Grandpa spoke to me, I listened.
He was such a smart, kind, gentle man.
I respected his opinion completely.
So I dug into something like this:
Okay, maybe the flags and blue berries weren’t there, but this is blog land you know.
The lesson?
Never say you won’t try something just because it sounds strange, or you have never heard of the combination before.
We’ve all heard this as children, but it still holds true as adults who are set in their ways.
Just try it darn it!
The sweetness of the brown sugar blended with the sour cream is devine.
Then the tart strawberries take it to a state of euphoria.
Here’s some one who enjoyed an entire bowl after I made it:
Strawberry Delight
Fresh Strawberries
Sour Cream
Brown Sugar
Nothing to it. Just layer these in the amount you desire.
Be sure to add enough sugar to go with the sour cream.
Wonderful for Memorial Day, or the 4th of July.
Easy, because all you need to buy is the fresh fruit.
Don’t forget to thank Grandpa!

The new look for the blog is fantastic Julie! I Love it! As for that unexpected from left field sour cream brilliance… I can’t wait to try it!
Oh how heavenly that looks, Julie! I’m not a sour cream fan but I might have to make if for the Mr. and take a little taste. You blog looks GREAT!!!

Julie, I love your new blog design! I would never have thought to put sour cream on strawberries but I know I’d like it because I can eat sour cream all by itself! A great big thanks to Gramps!

Julie,I just read your new blog, and what a wonderful idea to make your debut on a Spring day. We all have loved the dessert that came from Jen’s Grandfather, those tart strawberries, sour cream and the sweetness to top it off. You can be sure Dad and I will try that very soon and remember those times our family first tried the sumptious dessert. Congratulations on your new blog, you will go far and into the future with more ideas about making a house a home, and the cooking that goes along with any home. With love MOM

Julie – I remember Gramps recipe well. I grew up next door to Jen and we used to have this for dessert after strawberry picking in the summer! If you haven’t tried this yet, it does sound gross! But trust me, it’s delicious!! And you’re right, he was a kind, gentle man!! Ooohh….do you remember his homemade candy? LOVE your website! Came across it on isledegrande. Donna
Yum! This looks so good! I’m not a huge fan of sour cream, but it actually sounds really tasty with the brown sugar too.
