Hi y’all!
We spent 6 years in the South y’all,
so I do have the urge once in a while to use “y’all”. My youngest daughter still says “styairs” for stairs. So cute. Did y’all hear about my ice skating accident?
(okay, I’ll stop with y’all) There I was, having a blast with my kiddos,
showing off some slick cross over turns I did in the 70’s, when instantly my skate stuck into the ice. I fell forward at high speed landing on my chest and arms. I don’t remember the actual impact. I think my mind blocked it out, but I do remember the pain afterward. The next day, I could hardly move my arms to get out of bed. The day after that it spread to my chest and neck. I’m still having some issues with my neck, and may go get it checked out. Don’t worry Mom, I’ll be fine. Learn from my mistake…
sharpen your skates after you haven’t used them for a while. So, after a couple days I was able to finally take some photos of our master bedroom makeover.
The green was really starting to get to me.
Why on Earth did I paint it green to begin with? Earth day? Green with envy? Kermit lover? I do love color, but green gets old fast. Here’s the before:
Here’s the after:
So yes, I went with white (Rick helped).
The funny thing is, it was white to begin with. Not only is white classic, but it’s fresh, clean, and easy to decorate with. I also had a gallon left over from the basement m”Swiss Coffee”. Our furniture may look black, but it’s dark cherry in person.
The two things I splurged on were the comforter, and shams.
They are both from Bed Bath & Beyond. With my 20% coupon the comforter was $160.00. That’s a great deal for a king “down” comforter. I came across some that were $400.00. Crazy. This one is fake. Advantages of imitation down comforter:
Price. Feels exactly like the real deal (I had a real one before). You can wash and dry this in your own home. No feathers coming out, or moving around. No allergies. Looks the same. Larger than normal King sized down comforter. Can’t beat it if you ask me. The shams are a different story.
I could write a book on shams and how ridiculously priced they are. These are “Euro” shams. Give me a break. They are bigger that’s all. Bigger in price and bigger in size. I paid $24 each, that’s a lot I think. They do look cozy though. The pretty decorative pillows were on clearance for $9 each. Score! I decided to add some of my other projects to the room for
some personal charm. If you read my blog regularly you will notice that I love to move things around to different rooms. You never know what Red might do. My glowing photo lantern project can be found “here“.In case you missed my post last week, We custom framed this poster my hubby gave me with wood we had left over. The frame seems to “anchor” the entire room. It pulls it all together and adds that rustic feel I am so attracted to. Frame instructions are found “here“. It was very easy to do, and we had fun doing it. We were even able to add our initials.
Next, you’ll see the view leading into our hall to our bathroom.See that window?
I’m not a fan of curtains, not fancy ones anyway. Why cover up a beautiful window with fabric? Privacy is a good reason, but if you have blinds, you’re golden. The candle above the ladder back chair is made from a tin placemat. You can find that project “here“. The light fixture you can purchase here. The inexpensive rug I had, and is an outdoor rug from Home Depot, found “here“. Below is our hall, and boy do I detest how these doors hit each other I would love to change the door on the right to a sliding rustic barn door. This picture is deceiving. You will find our master bathroom makeover “here“.
I found this silver tray at Good Will for $1.75.
It makes a perfect jewelry holder. When decorating a room I enjoy adding a piece of nature.
Could be a plant, a flower, or twigs. Here are some real pussy willows I let dry out and I added some twigs from our yard to fill it in. My “doodled bench” project can be found “here.”
Once again…I’m always moving things around. This may or may not stay here, but I do like tying my sneaks here 🙂 These lamps were on clearance years ago at Walmart for $20 each. It may seem as though I am trying to convince you
that making over a room is easy. I am a very honest person. This wasn’t easy. It’s took time, energy, and a lot of prep. The comforter and shams took several trips to Bed Bath & Beyond because I forgot my coupon and got the wrong size shams. Damn shams! The photo shoot and staging alone took an entire afternoon. I spent 10 minutes placing those high heels so they looked like I just took them off. I haven’t worn those since my high school reunion last Summer. I HATE high heels. The reason I go through all of this? TO INSPIRE YOU.
If you wish to make over a room, you can do it with out spending a lot.
Your make over doesn’t have to look like a hotel or a magazine. Forget designer sheets and expensive window treatments. Paint, old wood, twigs, thrift store finds all go a long way if you give them a chance. If you have a room you need help with, e-mail me some photos and I would love to give you some suggestions. Have a great weekend!

Love the white with all the dark accents.
Could you tell me the brand name of your bedroom suit? I love it and I have been searching for one forever!
Hi Kristin…it’s Art Van, but I don’t have a brand name.
Absolutely gorgeous!! Did I miss the part about the ceiling light fixture in your beautiful bedroom? I love the way it looks with the lampshade!! BTW didn’t know you were a southern transplant… You should have stayed with us down here!! I live in Greenville SC.
Hi Barbara…there is a link to the light in the post. I prefer the North, but the South was nice for a little while. Too many snakes!
You amaze me!!!! I am so proud of you. I wish I had the talent like you to decorate and make it look all cozy♡♡♡♡♡♡ Smooooooches
Thanks, Jules! I hope to see you in August!
Where did u get the Paris sign ? Did u make it? Lov your room!!
Hi Sherri, it’s from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It was a couple years ago though. Try e-bay too.
Hi Julie
Where did you buy your dressers from? Do you know the name of it or where i can find? Looks like a white dresser i found at macys called Tiana Bay. Is that it and you painted?
Thanks
Hi Jennifer, they are not painted. They are mahogany wood stained and are from Art Van Furniture. We purchased them about 6 years ago.
The green was a bit scary. I’ve come to the conclusion that you love to paint! LOL
Very scary! lol
Do you find that with the black furniture in your home, that you have to dust the furniture more often?
I know it looks black, but it is dark mahogany. I dust rarely, so it doesnt phase me ? Honestly, it does show more, but I think it’s worth it.
