It is absolutely GORGEOUS outside here in Southeast, Michigan, today.
I even hear a lawn mower.
That means everyone is in the mood to clean up.
Before I can get to the exterior clean-up, I need to take care of a few things on the inside.
Welcome to round #2 of my “Spring Cleaning Series”.
If you missed the first round you can find that here:
How to make your own…”Pretty Plunger”.
Today, though. It’s all about RICK.
You know…Rick. My handsome husband of almost 21 years.
The one that helps me, be me.
I don’t think I’ve ever told you this, but Rick is an attorney.
That means he wears lots of suits.
That means he wears lots of white shirts.
That means he has lots of shirts.
That means he has lots of collars.
You know where I’m going with this…
He’s cute, I know.
I love him. A lot.
The only problem is his damn ring around the collar!
For years I had no idea how to get rid of the stain that develops around his collar.
We actually send his shirts to the dry cleaners, and they sometimes get the ring out, but after they sit in the closet for a while, the stain comes back.
Drives me crazy.
I finally decided to try different remedies I found on line because these shirts are very expensive.
I even turned to my redheadcandecorate.com Facebook page and asked for help from my awesome followers.
I tried several of their very clever suggestions.
Lemon, the sun, dish detergent, vinegar, tooth paste, soaps, etc.
The winner was actually one I saw on Pinterest several times.
DISH WASHER DETERGENT.
Please don’t let this photo fool you.
I used a couple different brands including Cascade, and they all worked.
The key is to get that white powder into a paste (add a little water), and let it sit on the wet collar for about an hour.
Then scrub with a brush.
Scrub hard, not soft.
Rinse and repeat if necessary.
That’s it folks.
After a nice rinse and blow dry, she looked fresh as a daisy.
Try it!

Great tip. I’m going to try this on my hubby’s collars too. Do you think it would work with dishwasher liquid soap?
Yes, worth a try, Eriene.
Can I try on colored shirt?
Yes!
There is a reason people used starch so many years ago! It puts a barrier between the cloth, dirt, & sweat! My grandmother taught that to my mom when my dad had ring around the collar!
I’m from the old school, before liquid detergents, but there was ‘1’ liquid detergent, it was Wisk. My mom and everyone poured it directly onto the ring around the collar, rubbed the detergent into the material and washed it with other white clothes. The ring around the collar was gone ever time. They still make wisk today, and I’m still using it for all my washings!!!
That is awesome, Gale! Glad you have such a great remedy!!! I will try it. ~ Julie
I keep a box of cheap dishwasher detergent (Walmart) in my laundry room cabinet. It is a great pre-soak agent and laundry booster too, especially for whites. Works just as good as the high priced name brand – specialty laundry additives. -Linda
