Thrifty Yellow & Pink Spring Porch

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

I waited for the sun ☀️ to show up all day today, so my Thrifty Yellow & Pink Spring Porch photos would look all warm and pretty. Well, at about 3:00pm I finally gave up because the clouds were not budging. Wouldn’t you know that exactly 30 minutes after I finished the photo shoot, the sky opened up and all the birds came out chirping. Someone was playin tricks on Red.

Before we get to those cloudy, but cute photos of the thrifty style porch makeover, I wanted to share what our side porch looked like last year after I spray painted these hand-me-down metal chairs my parent’s gave me when they moved. The porch was looking “okay”, but definitely needed more, don’t you think?

So, this year I am taking it up a notch. It’s all perfect timing for my monthly Thrifty Style Team post. After you check out my porch, I invite you to check out all my friend’s affordable ideas at the end. One includes a cold brewski 😳.

Okay, no cocktails going in here, we have some quick updating to do. This is what that avocado green metal table looked like this year. I actually loved the tree, but it needed help.

I opted for yellow since my pillows had a lot of yellow, and I just happen to love yellow when it comes to spring decor. The spray paint I used is listed in my source list below.

To get an even, smooth coat, I sanded the top of the table lightly first, and then did 3 coats of spray paint. Don’t tell Rick, but I got yellow spray paint on the garage floor. Just keep on scrolling, he will not notice.

These metal chairs below took way more work to spray paint than that little table above. You would think they would take seconds, but there are lots of nooks and crannies in there. I probably did about 5 coats and had to turn these twins upside down to do the bottoms, too. I admit, they were a pain, but what an affordable transition!

Here’s the best photo of the finished Thrifty Yellow & Pink Spring Porch makeover I could manage with the clouds messing with me…

I think you can tell spring has a long way to go up here in Michigan, but buds on the trees are out.

While styling for the photos I heard lots of buzzing, and thought wow, that must be a huge bumble bee. It turned out to be a humming bird! TIP: hummingbirds love the bright pink impatiens.

By the way, I want to make sure you know that impatiens do well in the shade. I attempted to put these beauties in the sun because a nice lady told me as long as you water them they will be okay. Um, no. They need shade. Maybe an hour of sun, but no more. I also take impatiens inside the house and they do amazing. I wrote about that here: “Indoor Impatiens“.

After painting both the chairs, and the table, I shopped the house to style the rest. I still had those pillows (info. below) and the tall plant stand in back was found at a thrift store a couple years ago.

Oh dear, I can’t forget to give credit to my son, Vic, for the use of his cactus & aloe vera plants. They looked so cute on the yellow table for the photos, but they have to go back upstairs in his room, pronto, lol.

One last little tip and then I’m headed to relax. If you need a rug…check out my link below. I plan on posting more detail soon about these amazing rugs I finally found, but until then I wanted you to know where to look. I have 2 of these rugs and they are the best washable rugs I have ever had.

I love the way spray paint and color can really upgrade a space. Your color choices and styling are so pretty. I love your son’s plants too. You can never have too many plants.

I agree, refreshing the colors makes it look so pretty! Pinned.

  3. I’ve been on the lookout for something just like that cute little yellow table! I’ll have to keep that color of spray paint in mind if I find something in a thrift store! Your porch looks like the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the nice weather once it finally decides to come and stay for awhile!

Julie, I absolutely love this charming update! The colors are so vibrant and you don’t even notice it’s a cloudy day! Btw, I have a bit of a ‘reputation’ for getting spray paint on many surfaces, lol! I won’t tell Rick! 😉

I didn’t mention it, but I got green paint on our concrete under our carport when I painted my table! I chuckled at your “yellowhead can decorate” watermark! I noticed the cute yellow polkadot planter immediately. Such upbeat colors would lift anyone’s spirits and make a great spot for watching the trees leaf out!

Love you porch update. I’ve been thinking of updating my Americana styled porch (the same decor for past 4 years)… but I can’t afford to replace everything… your YELLOW update fits the bill! Now I can’t wait to get home and get to work!

As always – lots of color…Julie style perfect! I agree, in our cold, cloudy region we need all the color we can find. I will be working on my lower, covered deck decor this weekend. Your color reminds me to seek out lots here too!

    Julie,
It turned out so cute! And, now I’m inspired to do ours. PS I saw a vanity license yesterday that said “FUN RDHD” and I thought of you!🤗
    Happy Mother’s Day!

  14. such a sweet and colorful little spot. I have no earthly idea what my life would be like without spray paint! 🙂 have a lovely weekend!

    Happy Mother’s Day Julie:

What a nice cozy porch you designed, just love your colors. I just finished painting an old wrought iron table base of my Mum’s and then doing a mosaic top. A lot of work, but happy with the results.
I’m glad you told me about impatience and hummingbirds, I have a few visit my yard, so will definitely will get a plant.

    Cheers, Bette

  16. […] Here’s the next look I’m considering.  I think this one is more of a traditional spring look. It’s still fairly neutral, but the colors are brighter and create a very springy front porch. […]
