I’ve always wanted a red door, how about you? I just don’t think it would look right on our house. Our house is painted periwinkle so it would match beautifully, but I feel it would take on too much of a “traditional” look. As in “stuffy traditional” because of the other traditional elements in our home. It’s just not me. However…a red bench is me! Is it you? Well, let’s find out. Allow me to introduce you to our new “Fall Red Painted Bench”…
It’s actually not new at all. It’s going on 10 years old soon. I guess that puts it in 5th grade?
Here’s that little red bench 5th grader before I painted it candy apple red (red paint color located at bottom of post)…
Yuck. The dark brown looked great for a while, but the Winter months up here really take their toll. When it was brown you could barely see it up against our house. Here, I’ll prove it…
It just kind of blends in.
Now it POPS and says, “What’s up hot, lady? Come on over and sit down. How about a honeycrisp?”

After I painted it red, I first placed it under our wooden American flag and boy did it look pretty:
Now that Fall is quickly approaching, I couldn’t wait to style it out front with fun Fall items. I plan on putting it back on the porch after our brick floor is completed. My husband is working on that now and the big reveal is coming soon.
So, first, I found the mums & the pumpkins at the grocery store (they come out early in Michigan), and then the gingham black & white checkered fabric I had from my Vintage Picnic Basket Centerpiece, so that was easy peasy. No need to buy an expensive blanket, folks. This fabric is cheap on-line and you can find it by the yard here: BLACK & WHITE GINGHAM FABRIC.
If you’re interested in that stump, I give a full tutorial here: STUMP TABLE.
Now, I know you may be admiring that cute little stuffed fox with the sweater on. I fell in love with him at HomeGoods last year for our Cottages & Bungalow’s Magazine Fall Home Tour. Unfortunately, I doubt they have him now, but you may want to check. I looked on line and found these really cute FOX PILLOWS. I also located many affordable BROWN FUR PILLOWS.
I can’t forget that cute glass jug I use everywhere. I love putting 1 flower at a time in it. Just something about that. I found the exact one here: GLASS JUG.
Then on the other side I put my RC Cola Crate and filled it with some fresh apples. I couldn’t believe it but I found one of those on line, too >>> COLA CRATE.
Painting
CHALK BOARD SIGN: I painted a plain particle board with chalk board spray paint to make my “Sweater Weather” sign. All you do is spray a couple coats and let it dry. Then “cure” the paint by swiping the board with the side of a piece of chalk, and then erasing it with a chalk board eraser. Then it’s ready to use over and over again.
RED BENCH: I have some advice for you. My husband suggested that I spray paint the bench red. I said no like an idiot and decided to paint it with a brush. It took me forever to get this thing to turn red, and the paint even had primer in it. If I could do it all over again, I would sand the bench a little, and then spray paint it red with this: RED SPRAY PAINT. It would probably take at least 3 cans of spray paint.
So that’s my “Fall Red Painted Bench Story” for you. I hope you have a great weekend! XO

The red painted bench is a beautiful color. Although I love the gray, but the red even better. I had so many pieces of wood from two large trees we cut down, but we gave it all away. This was a few years ago. ??

Hi Amy! I noticed your e-mail. My maiden name is “Urtel”. How about that?! And thank you for your sweet comment! My Mom & Dad are the best!!
Excellent choice. The red looks great with your red bricks in your home, as well as all the other outdoor beautiful items you have in your outdoor space.
I also live in Michigan! Just painted a couple of wood chairs I had red! I love the bright cheery color. I could totally see myself sitting on that bench with a cup of coffee on a lazy fall Sunday. I can’t wait to see how you decorate it for Christmas!
Uh oh…I never thought of that! I better get thinking, lol. I need a big Santa to sit on it 😉
I love love love love love the bench and every thing that you have done ………..AMAZEBALLS
Hi Brenda! I haven’t seen you in a while! Hope all is well. How’s NASCAR going? And thank you!!
Luv the red; not only the color but the style of the bench, and sure looks great up there on your porch and again; also like your Fall decorating.
The red really gives off a nice PoP of color.
