Are you in the mood for a little thrifting and crafting today? I am!
While screeching to a halt in front of stopping by our local Goodwill I noticed that they had some amazingly gorgeous sweaters. Okay…some were kind of ugly, but the pretty ones got me thinking. Hmmm…
What could I craft up for Christmas this year with those?
I knew I had a “FloraCraft®Make It: Fun® Team Challenge” coming up soon, and I also knew my “Thrift Store Makeover Challenge” was coming up, too. Combining them would be a dream come true…so I thought some more. I thought about all of the fantastic shapes that FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam comes in. Then I looked at the sweaters, the flannels. Then I repeated it over and over until I finally began to hear the angels sing…and I began to picture this:
Did you hear the angels?
Lets try again…check out that little guy at the bottom. He’s singing loudly.
Talk about a cutie!
Okay…they’re cute and all, but how did I make them so smooth looking?
I must be honest. It was a bit tricky at times, but totally do-able.
I used 3 methods, your choice to pick the one that suits you the best.
First, pick out your thrift store pretty sweaters, or shirts, or flannels. Wait. Flannels? Well, I actually had a king size flannel pillow case left over too (who uses those things anyway?). So, yeah, you can use fabric you already have at home, too. How about a t-shirt? How about denim? That would be cool.
I also purchased flannel ribbon because I had never seen it before and I really wanted to try it. It happened to be the easiest method.

Second, decide what size FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Cones you will use, and how many. I got a bit carried away because I love my FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam cones, but you can make just one, that is totally fine.
Third, find some stars. I found the lace red ones at the dollar store (they are ornaments flipped upside down), and the solid ones I cut from a dollar store reindeer cut out. Gotta do what you gotta do.
Fourth, make your Christmas trees with one of these methods:
- Method #1-Wrap fabric around tree and secure in the back with tacks. Put a dab of glue on each tack to help keep in place. Although not shown, there is a circle of tacks on the bottom holding the fabric down.
- Methods #2-Although not photographed, use large stick pins (the kind with balls on the top) to hold fabric in place. No glue necessary.
- Method #3 (photos below)-My favorite method, using the flannel ribbon, cut peices of flannel ribbon for each row and attach in back with FloraCraft® Styro Glue . *I used a stick pin for the top layer because when you fold it over the tip, the glue will not hold well.
Lastly, stick scissors into the tip of the tree to make a hole large enough to stick your star in. A little glue will help too.
I’m displaying mine on my kitchen hutch. Like a full chorus…
You can hear them now, right?
