DIY No Soliciting Sign

It’s morning, I’m in my PJ’s, the kids are at school, the hubby has just left,

I started laundry, made the beds, finished the dishes, and fed the cat.

I’m ready to sip tea and write my post.

I sit down, take my first sip, and there’s a knock on our front door.

“OH, SHIT!”

I tip toe to the window and peak out.

It’s a stranger, and there’s no way in heck I’m answering the door.

That’s where this DIY Soliciting Sign comes in…

Then there’s Saturday morning.

It’s 10am and we’re in bed.

YES!  WE LIKE TO SLEEP IN PEOPLE!

GO AWAY!!!!!!

(you can find how I made our door look like stained glass here: Stained Glass Door)

I don’t want my trees cut down.

My driveway doesn’t need to be sealed.

Our lawn is fine with the bugs.

My internet is the worst, but you can’t fix it.

I don’t want cookies, okay, wait, maybe I do.

Most importantly, and I am screaming this at the top of my lungs as if I’m on a mountain top…

I have found my Jesus!

No Solicitors Sign

You’re thinking how in the world did she come up with this.

Why use a fan blade to ward off unwanted solicitors?

It’s better than throwing it out, right?

This is how it began…

A couple months ago we replaced our daughter’s ceiling fan with this cool Rustic Light Fixture.

When Rick handed me the parts, I thought they were too good to just throw away.

The fan was broke, but I could use some of these parts.

First, I made this DIY Candelabra Planter out of the lamp shades:

Then I saved 2 of the fan blades for whatever I could think of later.

I’ve always wanted a “No Soliciting Sign”.

Here was my chance!

To make, I unscrewed the gold part and spray painted it black.

Then I spray painted the blade white.

I figured out what I wanted to write, and spaced it out in 3rds.

I used a permanent marker to write freehand.

Then I tied the burlap bow on it.

So, listen up all you SOLICITORS!

LOL – love this!!! We have tons of solicitors here too – drives me insane! If only I could figure out a way to make this sign work on the Duct Cleaning company that calls me 3 times a week! Grrrr!!

What a clever use for a ceiling fan blade!

p.s. I’m still in bed at 10:00 a.m. on any day that we don’t have to be somewhere.

  9. Karen says:

Somewhere along the line, I scored a small engraved sign that states: “No soliciting. It’s annoying. Really.”

I haven’t had the nerve to put it up yet, but your sign motivates me! And I’m about to replace an old ceiling fan, so maybe, I’ll rethink how I deliver the message! So much more impressive than a little bitty plastic sign!

I LOVE IT!!!!!….I keep telling my husband we need some sort of sign to keep annoying knockers away. Absolutely one of the best, if not funny, repurposes I’ve seen.

Love it! Just moved off my boat and driving up to my new “tiny house” that has a ugly fan. Will do this for sire. Thanks for sharing. Love your site, you rock red head. Btw, my granny Swan was red headed!!!
