Painting & Distressing a Jewelry Armoire
|
And the winner of my face book “What color should I paint the dresser contest?” goes too…This was so easy…I hope you will try it with any piece of furniture you hate the color of. So many colors to choose from!! Easy steps found below…
You can see before it was orangy wood. I hated it the day I bought it, but I couldn’t find one I liked, so I settled. They weren’t so popular back 10 years ago so I was worried I wouldn’t find one as cheap.I decided on antique white because I am so familiar with it after using it in our kitchen. I also love the distressed look on white. I kept the knobs, but used a little white paint to make them look distressed as well.
See…I really do do my own work! First I used the left over paint from the kitchen which has a primer in it and put one coat on. The next day I spray painted it with 2 coats of a similar color. What’s cool is that when you put oil spray paint over latex paint, it makes a cool rippled effect that looks crackled in spots. My hubby shared that info with me after I did it. Worked out well.
Make sure you use a mask when ever you spray paint, or sand anything!!! It is best to spray paint outside. I do it in my basement occasionally with a door open, but usually outside!
After it dried for 2 days, I had muscle dude Rick bring it up stairs so I could distress it. I decided to try something different and faster than sand paper…I used an old knife. Carefully! Oh my, it was a cinch! Not kidding!!!
If you try this…use the corners and moldings as a guide.
Just rough it up! So fun to do… She’s ready for her jewels!
Since Mother’s Day is coming up…this ones for you Mom!
I love you!Do you remember these beautiful costume/fashion jewels your Mom (my Nano) wore to your wedding? I will keep them safe for Daphne & Valerie I promise. I thought my Grandma’s costume/fashion jewelry would look lovely on my husband’s Grandma’s tray. Combining our everlasting love You never know what you can come with if you just go for it! My little Val helped me discover that the costume brooch can fit on the handle.(note:these are not real diamonds)
Very inexpensive way to pretty up any piece of furniture!
