Raise your hand if you have a gorgeous “dress-up” clutch purse sitting in your closet that you used once for a wedding that you don’t even remember πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ . You don’t remember, not because you drank 1 too many Manhattans, but because it was 30 years ago πŸ˜‚. Yep, time flies when we are busy, doesn’t it? I hope my “Repurposed Vintage Clutch Purse” line-up brings a smile to your face and a giggle to go with it.

Isn’t this vintage looking white clutch just so gorgeous? Believe it or not, my son and I visited our local thrift store and I ran into this $3.99 Marilyn Monroe knock-out and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. Almost wedding worthy! I have no idea how old it truly is, but it also reminds me of the flapper purses from the 1920’s. I wasn’t around then, but why do I feel like I was?

TIP: Put un-washable items from the thrift store in the freezer for 24 hours to help kill possible bugs/mites.

My gut told me…”Get it, girl.” So I did, and I have had so much fun playing around with the pocketbook all week. I’m going to crack you up in a bit when I show you how I repurposed it, but first I wanted to give you this cute idea using a pretty purse (especially an elegant one such as this) in your home decor.

Below you’ll notice how I simply placed this gorgeous clutch on a tiny wooden shelf in our master bathroom fireplace nook. It just seems to settle in so nicely here. I kind of fantasized about how the woman in the photo (me-okay maybe not) had lost her clutch that night in Paris and how it ended up in our thrift store πŸ˜‚.

All kidding aside, I actually ended up hanging it in our foyer. It may not be what you would typically find on a wall in a home, and you certainly won’t find one in HomeGoods, but I will tell you it is a stunner conversation piece and fits into my elegant-eclectic decorating nicely. The best part is that it reminds me of that day with my son.

Okay, enough of the mushy stuff…I hope you enjoy the “Repurposed Vintage Clutch Purse” line-up and hopefully you will get a kick out of some of these ideas we came up with as a family. Be sure not to miss the last one.

  2. I’m all for actually using beautiful things like this in our daily lives and I love all your idea for using the little clutch as an organizer! I’m kind of obsessed with the idea of putting it on a little shelf though. Why not have things like this stored in a way that they can be appreciated until you actually need them? You’ve given me some ideas!

  3. What a gorgeous purse, a great find! You thought of some great ways to use it and if you have a fancy event to go to, you are all set.

This clutch is lovely and you have some wonderful ideas for using it in any everyday life. But, my daughter wanted me to let you know, that the candy stash and the hot dog carrier, were absolutely the greatest ideas. She’s sent it to all her little 13 year old girlfriends, and apparently they all agreed. They thought the pantyliner idea was smashing as well. It gave the girls some pretty good ideas, so now they want to go thrift hunting themselves, to find clutches like this, and see what cool stuff they can think of to do with theirs. You succeeded in pulling in a new generation of thrifters in my neighborhood, so you should be proud of the work you do for that reason as well. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.

I love the Parisian version. The shelf by the print is a lovely place for it! The whole post is a nice escape from all the serious business in the world right now.

  9. Barbara Warner says:

Love all those purposes for an old purse! Especially the “panty liners” and the candy stash. I have an old leather shoulder bag my Mom bought when she was working in a factory during WWII. She was always so proud of buying that leather handbag and I still have it and cherish it. I hang it on the wall in our guest room – I should put something secret in it! Thanks for the great ideas in buying and using these old items!

Sweetest story ever! My mom gave her cherished leather bag to my daughter. She still asks me if it’s okay at age 85 β™₯️

  10. Bette says:

    Hi Julie:
I have a small evening bag similar to the one you found. Unfortunately I can’t use it for pantyliners, as I have graduated to a full size pad, UGH! I like the makeup idea, so will maybe try that. I love that you bought it with your son and it is a reminder to you.
    How are recovering now?
Stay healthy and away from this nasty virus.

    Cheers, Bette

    • Julie says:

Hey, Bette! Thank you for asking! I’m still getting around rather slow, but slowly getting better. I hope you got a kick outof the hotdog 🀣. And yes… you stay away from this virus too!!!
