As I slowly watch our toilet paper stash dwindle (and even offer a couple rolls to neighbors), I am busy using my creative juices to think up clever ways to, you guessed it, wipe. It’s scary, it’s sad, and it’s quite embarrassing, but I think the Coronavirus (and all of the toilet paper hoarding) has really put things in perspective. Drastic times, call for drastic measures, and I just don’t feel like decorating today. I honestly hope my “10 Alternatives to Toilet Paper” can help.
Even though some of the ideas below might seem obvious, strange, and even hysterical, the truth is, if you run out you now have a plan B from the redhead. After you read this, I hope you can think of 1 way to help someone that may need it during this time of crisis.
1.TISSUES-Do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
2. NAPKINS-Do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
3. PAPER TOWELS -Rip/cut in half and do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
4. BABY WIPES– Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
5. OLD CLEAN SHEETS– Cut with sharp scissors/knife and do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
6. OLD CLEAN TOWELS/WASH CLOTHS– Cut with sharp scissors/knife and do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
7. OLD SOCKS (ESPECIALLY CHILDREN SIZED)– Do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
8. UNDER SHIRTS– Cut with sharp scissors/knife and do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
9. OLD FLANNELS– Cut with sharp scissors/knife and do not flush. Dispose of in a plastic zippy bag or trash bag.
10. DRIP DRY & GET IN SHOWER AND WASH UP.

My “Thrifty and Pretty Phone Cleaning Station” below was created using an old fancy bottle (with a secure top) filled with rubbing alcohol from the dollar store. It’s partner is a thrift store vase cleaned, and filled with dollar store cotton balls. To use, just take 1 cotton ball and add a little alcohol to it. Clean your phone -back/front, sides, top, bottom. Be sure to stage this “Thrifty and Pretty Phone Cleaning Station” in an area where all family members can access it, and it will also remind them to clean their phone if they forget! (PS-Most folks forget to clean their phone daily and I hope this helps!)

Our house hold ion the same situation with tp running low. Our 9 yr old came up with the idea of coffee filters.

Love your ideas. After all, we never know just how far back we still might have to go back in time. My grandfather use to talk about using leaves/cotton, LOL! As they say people, ‘don’t knock it,’ we never know??? STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

This is something I’ve used for years. A small squeeze bottle of warm water! Gets you so much cleaner than toilet paper!
I saw a similar tip on a you tube video. They took an empty detergent squeeze bottle, put warm water in it and a few soap chips. Shake and spray. Use the cloth squares that were suggested to dry, place in a plastic pail with a little baking soda and wash in laundry, You can also purchase a very inexpensive ($30.-$60.) bidet for your toilet, no plumbing required. Was actually thinking of doing this. Hubbs didn’t like the idea, but told him I’d use it and save half the TP bill. 😀 Stay well. Blessings.
Hey, Redhead…Don’t throw the white cotton anklet socks out if you only do #1! Save the TP for #2 & red messes! Lol. I wash them in hot water, detergent & bleach on small load that soaks for 1 hour- been doing this for a while now. Two people used about 3 rolls TP since past January ‘20. Same idea as diapers but nowhere near the amount of urine! Plus, cut hubby’s old white undershirts into 12” squares – they won’t unravel either (no seam edge to sew) use, wash repeat endlessly. A couple called me and were cleaning out their relatives garage. I’m not sure why I purchased 50 old catalogs (Sears, Montgomery Ward, etc.); but I did. Now…..hmmmm….are we going to have to start using these?? Time will tell. lol

Some good ideas! I am so disappointed in the general public, going on a toilet paper shopping binge. In my area, anyone that is binge shopping is going to have pay the consequences, like fines etc.

How about this lets go to the cause of the problem, What goes in has lot to do with what comes out, concentrate on that and cut TPaper use by 50% love to all, Dad in NY.

#10 should be moved up to #1. It is especially easy if you have a hand-held shower wand. No need to strip all the way – just your lower half. It is the same as having a bidet (not very popular in US but in Europe it is standard).
Along with the Sears catalog was the telephone directory…only no more directories in my neck of the woods. The old socks idea is great. I always save them to dust and scrub so I have plenty of those. Stay safe and God bless you.
