Thrift Store Stained Glass Wreath Makeover

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Hey guys!  Not only is this probably the easiest makeover I have ever done, it also is my very first Christmas post for this year, yippee!!  I can’t wait to tell you all about this “Thrift Store Stained Glass Wreath Makeover”, but first I want to remind you to visit my “Thrifty Style Team”  friends at the end of this post because they have each put together something thrifty for us today.

When I was growing up, my Aunt Phyllis had a big window in her kitchen where she would hang her “sun catchers” or stained glass collection.  I was absolutely fascinated by it.  She also had a big cuckoo clock I would wait to hear “coo-coo” and a bell collection, but I better save that for another time 😆 .  Now-a-days I have a French door leading out to our deck where I hang my very small collection of sun catchers.  I’m kind of hoping to grow that collection, but it’s not usually something you buy for yourself, ya know?

So, when I walked into the thrift store and saw this rather large Christmas holly wreath stained glass beauty I just couldn’t wait to see how much they wanted.

I was shocked at the price.

$3.99 seemed really low since it was in such perfect condition, and very large.  Heck if I was to find one of these at a gift shop I know it would run around $30.00, or more.  I actually looked it up on-line and this used one was $27.00.

So, I put it around my neck and walked around the store looking like I had a really big necklace on.  I’m just to that age now where I just don’t care you guys.  My kids were laughing, but they are use to it.

The only thing is though…I think that stainless steel chain ruins it.  I guess it’s okay to hang it in a window, but I was thinking something softer would compliment the glass so much better.  After I cleaned the glass a little, I removed the chain and bent back the 2 little hooks that the chain was attached to.  They can easily be bent back if needed later.

Then I simply added a really wide red bow and leaned it on our kitchen window sill.  It looks so pretty there I will probably keep it there through the holidays.

Then I realized that this little green glass bowl that is also from the thrift store matches it perfectly.  I use that bowl for my sponge, but I didn’t think you wanted to see my sponge  .

Something so affordable and unexpected turned into something I really love.  I even tried it on our front door and it looked gorgeous there, too.  Whom ever got rid of this gorgeous sun catcher wreath really made a huge mistake.  I wonder who made it???

I have a bunch of smaller stained glass crafts I did with my kids that I never put out at Christmas. I bet if I grouped them together they would look awesome huh? I think I have the mini version of your wreath.

    Hi Julie,
What a score you found! I love the bow, it does add a softer touch. I’m amazed at what treasures you can find it Thrift stores. I try to go with an open mind and not something specific I’m looking for because then I seem to find great treasures:-) Thanks for sharing.

Such a lovely piece of stained glass wreath and looks so pretty in your kitchen window and goes so well with your green bowl. Nothing like hanging such a beautiful item to brighten up a certain area of the home.
Nice touch adding the red bow.
Got a green vase? If so Add some berry braches or put a few faux berries in your green bowl.
Sponge Daddy’s…….love them. They are a great Shark Tank item for sure.
