Our New Gas Cooktop

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

I enjoy cooking mainly on the weekends, how about you?  I love making soups, pizzas, and tomato sauce with chicken meatballs .  In fact, I’ve shared many of my favorite recipes on this blog 😆 .  If interested you can find them all here: Redhead Can Cook.  Now that you know when and what I cook…it’s time I talk about where I cook.  Well, yah…the kitchen.  It’s basically where I spend all of my time while I’m awake because I also work there.  It’s a pretty neat space which includes a fireplace, a beautiful view of the water, and a huge island equipped with a prep sink.  Located behind me when I stand at the prepping sink area is our gas cooktop.  This cooktop really gets a lot of use, which means a lot of cleaning.  Unfortunately, all of the “cleaning” ruined our ceramic gas cooktop so we decided it was time to not only find a new one, but to find one that is easier to clean.  Introducing “Our New Gas Cooktop”…

This Mom finally got tired of cleaning her ceramic cooktop and installed one of these babies! It's a stainless steel gas cooktop that is super easy to clean! Bravo, Mom!

I want you to know I was not paid by anyone to do this review.  I have honestly found reviews to be very difficult to write in blog land and am leaning away from them.  I mean how can I give an honest review if the sponsor is breathing down my back?  I can’t.

Instead, I am sharing our experience with the product that we chose.

Here’s the old ceramic cooktop that we purchased about 8 years ago.  I really liked it for many reasons, but cleaning that ceramic is such a nightmare.  I tried all the good ceramic cleaners, and even a few Pinterest homemade ideas and nothing really ever seemed to get rid of the streaks.  Drove me crazy.  Then the ceramic coating started to wear off.  That is where the arrows in the photo below are pointing.  That is not stuck on food you see.  It is actual ceramic coating missing.

This Maytag still works beautifully, but the cleaning was just ruining it for me.  By the way…I am in the process of trying to sell this Maytag 30 inch gas cooktop, so if you know of anyone, please let me know.  Of course I do live in Michigan so shipping costs could be steep.  We still might be able to work it out though, so let me know.

Here she was in all her glory when we replaced our backsplash with brick...

Unfortunately, it took me forever to get her to look that clean for the picture.  And just look at that wasted space on the right side where the knobs are.  Yikes!

So, bye bye Miss Streak Queen…

And hello beautiful Miss Streak-less…

This Whirlpool beauty is stainless steel as you can see which probably sounds terrifying for a cooktop, right?  Well, let me tell you it is the easiest cooktop I have ever cleaned.  Wait, maybe the second easiest because I do remember having a stainless steel cooktop in a rental we were in briefly when we transferred from Florida back to Michigan.  I should have realized then how much I loved them, but for some reason I still bought a ceramic.

To clean, all I have to do is lift the grate (all 3 stay attached slightly at the back) and wipe with a hot dish cloth.  Everything I have splattered so far comes off with such ease.  Stainless steel just doesn’t hang on to grease or egg like ceramic does.  It truly is a dream you guys.  I am so happy with it.

Oh, and look at the amount of pots and pans I can fit on this cooktop (below).  It’s still 30 inches just like the first one, but you can see how they save space by putting the knobs up front (smart dudes/dames).  I can fit 1 large pan or pot on the middle burner and medium ones on all 4 surrounding it.  By the way, the middle burner brings my pot of water to a boil faster than any burner I have ever had.  My daughter was shocked at how fast.

Oh, hey!  And even though it’s not the same “brand”, my new stainless steel cooktop looks beautiful up against our new stainless steel refrigerator.  BOOM!  Read about our new built-in fridge HERE.

I guess I am a stainless steel queen now.

If interested in checking out this cooktop, we purchased it at Lowes for $699 and here’s the information to copy and put in their search bar, or just give the sales guy:

Okay, next up I’m moving on to Christmas.  Yep.  It’s true!

If you're ready to upgrade your old cooktop, this is a great post explaining which cooktop is easier to clean.

I would like to know more about your kitchen island. How big is it exactly? I see a prep sink and a double oven? Could you describe it more?

  2. ColleenB.~ Tx. says:

What a beautiful transition. Sure made a Big difference; for the better. Goes so well with your new fridge.
I’m not a big fan of ceramic either or gas stoves. I used to have gas stove years ago and sure did burn Alot of food.
I’m all electric now since owning our own place and not renting.
Have yourself a great day and wonderful and enjoyable weekend.

    • Julie says:

Isn’t it funny how we get use to gas or electric? I burn stuff on electric ? Wait, I burn stuff on gas too ? Lol!!

      • Sandra W. Ryan says:

I have had them all and still prefer gas. It is easier to control the heat when needed especially now with the different size burners for larger or smaller pots. What I find is that if the burner is too hot even on low that you can move it off slightly to keep warm but not boiling or sizzling hot. I know everyone have their preferences and talents.

  4. Does your new stove cook well on low? We bought a new house recently and our gas stove burns food on low so I have to use a shield type thing on it. Wondering how the one you just bought works on this regard? Can you simmer food on low? Or is low still too hot like my stove top is? Yours is beautiful and the price is not bad…so I’d love to know how well it actually works. Thank you!

  5. Pat M. says:

I love your kitchen, but how do you keep the brick behind your stovetop from staining by something splattering?

    • Julie says:

Good question, Pat! The brick is sealed so I can wipe it just like anything , but to be honest it doesnt get dirty! I do alot of pot cooking (soups and pasta) and I don’t cook w alot of grease.

  6. erika wilson says:

I sure do love the look of your new stove top, but i’m like some of the other women, who burns EVERYTHING on a gas top. I’ve been cooking (and lovin’ it) for over 40 years on electric and is the one that i can control best. Every time my husband and i visit my bachelor brother in law, i burn everything on his gas range! I’m sure he wonders why his brother married me….lol PS. i adore you cooking area! Heck, i LUV your whole kitchen.

Maybe I am just lazy, but ever since we switched to induction, it is so easy to clean.

    • Julie says:

Okay, at the risk of sounded ignorant, what is induction? I’m thinking quick cook/boil? I will look it up. We have a convection oven and I don’t use that option, either ?. Lots to learn still! Thanks, Roxann!

  8. Pam says:

Your kitchen is just incredible! Actually your whole house is! I always look forward to seeing what you post next! Hope you enjoy your new stove..I can tell that stove will make some awesome homemade soup.

  9. Ivory says:

I love the look of your new stovetop. This surprises me, because your old stovetop was fabulous, and I did not think you could improve anything in your kitchen, because your kitchen already was a dream kitchen, but you did it again. Improving upon something that was already outstandingly fabulous. Thank you Julie for never disappointing.

  10. Darlene says:

I ❤️ Cook tops and yours in stainless steel looks amazing. It’s all coming together beautifully Julie.

  11. Beth says:

Hi. I read the above comments, however I didn’t see where you said the size of your island? Do you have a second sink? Your new stovetop is gas correct?

    • Julie says:

It is a gas cooktop. Our island is roughly 5 by 8 and I have 2 sinks. 1 prep sink in the island and 1 large double sink in the side cabinets.

  12. Pam says:

I had an induction cooktop when we lived in FL. I wish I had it now. I have gas and it is sooo slow compared to induction, and it heats up the kitchen. Induction only heats the pan, and is a smooth cooktop so a breeze to clean with Cerama Brite.

    • Julie says:

Ah ha! I had one of those flat cooktops in FL, too! Not sure if it was induction though. I was so busy w the little ones I hardly remember it. So odd that I forgot about it!

  13. Megan says:

    Great post Julie. Very informative!

  14. carol bittner says:

Oh Man that cooktop is so awesome! Yes it does look wonderful with your new fridge. You are one lucky redhead!!! You’ve absolutly earned those new treats; all those wonderful recipes and yummy ideas you come up with in your special space!!! I know you work hard (even tho you make things look easy). You’ll be whipping up a scrumptious Thanksgiving meal; what time do we eat? lol Happy for you.

    • Julie says:

Good morning, Carol! Actually I get a break this year for TG! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. It sure snuck up on us fast. Thank you for your kind words! Rick and I figure if we are staying put, we may as well tweak the things we don’t like. Thi

  15. Mary Alice says:

I really love your approach to sharing information, it is honest and straight forward. Love your post about the new cooktop. Where did you get the blue rug? I am in search of a new one about the same size and color. Thanks

    • Julie says:

Thank you, Mary! The rug is from Target, but in clearance (or possibly sale) so hurry! I bought a small one for under my big sink, too. Paid around $60 for both!

  16. Beth says:

Are the grated on your new stove easy to clean?

  17. Travy says:

I am soooo confused now. We JUST finished our kitchen after a 1 year long remodel. And now, we are moving out of state and having a house built starting in July. I could just lay on my new dolomite island and cry. But, I’ve put my big girl panties on and I’m dealing with it. Installed this awesome LG Monogram induction cooktop. I like it because it’s lightning fast on the heat adjustment but doesn’t accept some of my favorite pots and pans. I cooked on gas for a week at my in- laws and it made me so hot! Direct flame right there…do you find that the case with yours? It seems to set back a ways from the front edge. Your kitchen looks amazing! Great job!

    • Julie says:

I have noticed a little heat when cooking on more than one burner, but it doesn’t phase me? Just gotta be careful. The way I look at it, restaurants use gas so that says it all for me.

  18. Beth says:

What brand of gas stove top did you purchase Diane?

  19. Beverly Fischer says:

Would you mind telling me what the shelf above the cook top is made off? We have a similar cook top and are looking for a shelf to mount on our brick back splash.
