Tea Cup Cat Food Bowl

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

About 5 years ago we lost our yellow lab, “Dude” to a sudden heart attack.  It was one of the worst days of our lives.  He was healthy and we were in pure shock.  After about 2 weeks of mourning and adjustment, I decided to take the kids to rescue another pet thinking it would cheer us up.  That’s the day our little angel kitty came into our lives and she literally helped heal our broken hearts.  She truly is the sweetest and funniest cat I have ever known.  Sylvia is her name, but she has a million other nick names including “Kitty-Moo-Moo”, “The Gooch”, and even “Syl”.  So, this repurposed tea cup idea is dedicated to our “Kitty-Moo-Moo” who absolutely deserves a special cat food bowl.  We will call it the “Tea Cup Cat Food Bowl”…

So, you may be wondering why a tea cup, Julie?  I bought the pink tea cup & saucer at a flea market last Summer.  I actually collect “pink” items, and this cute tea cup & saucer are usually hanging out with a pink ceramic cow creamer, and a few other pink treasures I keep on this black credenza.  Well, this room no longer looks like this and has been transformed into family room.  Stay tuned, that makeover is coming up soon.

While I was moving things around for the new family room, the idea came to me to use the tea cup for Sylvia’s cat food bowl because she really didn’t have but an ugly plastic one in the corner of this room and this seemed to suit her so much better.  Sylvia is very dainty, and her snout is very petite.  It was just so fitting.

So, after I tried it, and Sylvia gave 2 paws up, I realized it was even better than I thought because the little saucer catches the little crumbs or “tongue nuggets” when she misses.  Sylvia is a fast eater and I only feed her a little twice a day because she has the tendency to over eat.  In fact, she doesn’t stop eating all day if I let her 😯 .    We think that has something to do with her past before we rescued her.

As you can see below, Sylvia loves her new bowl.  So, if you have a cat (not so sure this would work with a dog) there’s no need to buy an expensive ceramic cat food bowl.  Just repurpose one of those old tea cups & saucers and try it.  If you want a real unique one, try your local thrift store because I see millions.  While she was eating I took it a step further and added her water to another favorite tea cup of mine that my Mom gave me.

Sylvia is quite excited about it. Can’t you tell?

I think I will add this to a Christmas gift for my daughters cat, because it’s darn cute and she deserves it.

That is so lovely- Sylvia deserves a posh cup & saucer. Did you glue them together at all? I love that she has that name I have an amazing Auntie called that.
My son used to have a cat who would only drink waterout of a tiny antique glass!

Cute idea. Have the same problem with my rescue cat. She will eat until she can’t hold another mouth full. I think she is afraid there won’t be another meal. We have had her for 5 years and still doesn’t trust we will feed her again. Poor baby, being lost must have really scared her.

I have several of these china tea cups that were from my hubby’s Nana sitting in a china cabinet collecting dust! We have no pets (I have allergies) and yet still wondering what to do with them……….. I had thought of placing them outside with birdseed for the birds?? Yet still lean towards selling at a garage sale………… =)

Hmmmm…Julie. How about use them as a vase? You could put a different flower in each one or just use one. Or maybe a jewelry holder on your dresser?

    Hi Julie:

Just love the repurposed tea set, unfortunately I gave my teapot to my niece, so will have to go thrift shopping.
    Love your new cat bowl!

So cute Julie. Have 2 cats and thinks I might give it a whirl. Both my cats are so different with each their own set of personalities. Thanks again for sharing.

  9. This turned out so cute, Julie! I bet Sylvia is loving her dainty little bowl. Maybe eating from a tea cup would help me with portion control, too…LOL! And gosh…we’ve been friends for a bit now, because I remember when sweet Dude passed away. So glad Sylvia came along when she did!

  21. […] I really had fun decorating all of the shelves with items that are special to our family.  I am planning a post on tea sets shortly, so stay tuned.  I guess you could say I love tea.  My Mom found that gold trimmed set at a garage sale.  Isn’t it beautiful?  She also gave me the blue tea cup, and the colorful one.  I recently found the pink one and was using it for my cat for a little while.  Check that out, here. I love that pentagonal teacup you used for your cat bowl. I found it on your site by accident. Can you name the maker or the name of the cup? Thanks!!
