Vintage Mailbox

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

When I was a little girl in the 70’s in New York, we had a post lady that would walk down our street with the mail in a big bag on her shoulder and she would put the mail in the mail boxes up by our front door.  I swear, I can even remember what she looked like.  She had brown hair and dark glasses and wore a smile.  Oh wait.  Maybe that was the crossing guard?  😆  Either way, I miss those days and I wanted a mailbox at our front door just for the fun of it.  When I came across this “Vintage Mailbox” for a fantastic price I ordered it on the spot.  Hey, it even comes in several colors (view source below).

I use to have a wall sconce vase here, but it just kept filling up with dead beetles.  Poor guys get trapped in there.  So, I not only have a pretty mailbox on my porch, I’m also saving my beetle friends.

I went the extra step and filled it with a fresh hydrangea bloom.  This would be cute to do if I’m having company.  I would just stick a small glass of water in there to keep it fresh.  Can you picture daisies in there?  Uh oh, now we are talking.  How about little pumpkins, or Christmas tree branches with a few lights?

Sorry about the extra nails I haven’t removed yet.  Our house needs painting, but I’m trying to pretend it doesn’t, so let’s just move on.

Here’s how the side of the door looked before I removed that vase I was telling you about.  I can’t show you the full shot of the door right now with the mailbox because I am working on a a really cute project for the left side of the door.  It’s almost finished.  Lets just say the boring ladder back chair is not there anymore and something very very cool is! {hint:it’s white}

You can probably tell that I ordered a new kick plate, too (view source below).  What a difference it makes, and took minutes to replace.

      Yes, she did. Our mail man now is very friendly. He waves and brings my mail to front door if there is a package. It’s a tough job for sure.

    I love your no soliciting sign – you are so funny…. However soliciting means something else here in England…?

    What a darling mailbox and the hydrangea looks lovely tucked inside. Like the idea of adding flowers or even just some greenery tucked inside. Can decorate for anytime of the year….Waiting to see what you do with it for the 4th of July :}
    Got my curiosity peeked on what you have planned for the other side of your door. Can’t wait to C.

      You just reminded me that I meant to tuck some American flags in there! Maybe today I’ll try it. Hope your rain clears up!

    Greetings~ This request is not related to today’s entry, and yet noticing your brass door handle reminded me of my own – do you know how to get this looking like new again? Mine looks like it’s starting to pit and wonder if it’s salvagable or is getting a new one in my future? I’m new to your blog and look forward to receiving it! Thank you!!

    Love the vintage mailbox (and the updated regular one); the white looks so nice next to your front door.
    Great idea…..the no solicitors sign; maybe they just might get the hint that NO ONE WANTS THEM.

    My front door sign says:
    We are too broke to buy anything.
    We already know who we are voting for.
    We have found Jesus.
    Seriously, unless you are selling thin mints,
    PLEASE GO AWAY!!

    I Love the no soliciting sign you made!!! Perhaps you would consider making some for sale? Put me down for a dozen. I’d put one on every one of my doors and give the rest away as gifts.
