Dated Brass Pot Makeover

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

You can just call me “Brassy Lassie” today.  Well, maybe my personality doesn’t quite fit that persona, but I can’t get enough of brass or gold lately, how about you?  I’m even beginning to wear my old gold jewelry again 😯 .  So, I hope you enjoy this “Dated Brass Pot Makeover” today which includes 3 different repurposing ideas.  It’s all part of our monthly “Thrifty Style Team” series so it’s not just me today.  Be sure to check out my creative partners at the end of this post.

This dated brass pot makeover is genius! I spotted this shiny lady in the brass section of the thrift store (sounds like I’m referring to a high school marching band!).  Have you ever noticed that some thrift stores put similar elements together?  Like glass with glass, brass with brass, etc.  It actually looked pretty to me right on the shelf.  The price was right at $8.99, so I got it. This dated brass pot makeover is genius! It’s fairly large so I immediately pictured it as a floor plant pot which I assume that is what it was probably used for in it’s previous life.  You know…maybe a big palm or something.  Oh, and you know how fig leaf trees are trending right now.  A fig leaf tree would look so cute in there. Before I did anything though, I had to clean it up.  All it took was a little soap and water, and then after it was dry I spray painted it with gold spray paint (see exact product below).  It took about 3 coats and that was it. So now the question is…is this brass or gold now?  Take a look at all 3 repurposing ideas and then tell me what you would call it. Here’s the first idea where I just stuffed my magazines in there.  Pretty basic, but I like the glam factor it offers in my living room.  Check out how the gold spray paint really toned it down and made those “swirls” really pop, almost like an ice cream cone  😆This dated brass pot makeover is genius!

Next up is my little golden log holder.  We have a lot of fires at our house, so this is perfect for us wood burners.  Hey, I just realized it would make a nice garbage can for a bathroom or office, wouldn’t it? If you’re interested in my fireplace screen I wrote all about it here: “Gold Fireplace Screen“.   This dated brass pot makeover is genius!

Then last, and actually my favorite, I added some very pretty Lobelia purple flowers to it.  I did this just by adding a pot to the pot.  It just happen to fit in perfectly-how about that!  I love the shiny gold up against the purple. This dated brass pot makeover is genius!

I hope you don’t grow tired of my brassy ideas because I have a couple more coming up the next few weeks.    Now, if you want to try spraying something you find with gold spray paint, here’s the gold spray paint I swear by.  I’ve tried others and they don’t cover as well.  Let me know if you have any questions and don’t forget to subscribe to my free newsletter so you don’t miss the next project which is our laundry room reveal.

    Love your gold/brassy pot.
Absolutely beautiful with the purple Lobelia. I bet that would be pretty sitting upon your tree stump end table outside. Would also be pretty; if there where way is to hang it with pretty gold chain.
Looks good sitting by the fireplace as well.
    Great inspiration as always.
    Have a wonderful day

You’re my kind of gal Julie!! I can always see a vision and a purpose if I don’t like the color and it’s two words. SPRAY PAINT! My hubbie always says, why can’t you just leave things they are? LOL but the he says the creation that spray paint does and sees why.
I love the color and have never tried that gold, will have to add to my next trip to the hardware store.

All about the gold! painted my kitchen table with the only metallic I could find, sort of hard to work with and the damn cat walked across it!!!:) Loving the repurpose! almost everything in my house has been on the curb or given to us. Just took old sofa table type deal off the curb in hopes of making my desk…..now to find the room?!?!

So pretty and shiny. Am usually a silver or pewter person but gradually since seeing so much brass and gold am slowly being convinced. Always takes me twice as long to change preferences so by time I do, time for things to change again, duh!, lol.
Rustoleum is good metallic paint. Hubs says can with different spray head leaks so thought would warn you.
Your pot looks gold, could be brass, depends on light. think brass has more yellow to it. Gorgeous tho whichever somebody wants to call it. Love your fire screen also.
Enjoy rest of week. Love your lobelias, didn’t know name of plant before.

    • Julie says:

Uh oh! It’s happening to you, too Jane Ellen! I have been a silver girl for years and years. I say we just mix ’em. ?

  12. Bliss says:

Julie, this is gorgeous. I love the purple flowers that set inside this lovely gold pot. It also fab as a bucket for firewood, next to the fab firescreen.
