Easter Egg Boxwood Topiary

The “Thrift Style Team” is back again, but before I show you how to make this very simple “Easter Egg Boxwood Topiary” I have a funny story about foil chocolate eggs that I hope cracks you up.  No pun intended.

My mom had this kelly green sofa in the 70’s that I would lay on every Saturday morning covered up with my grandmother’s handmade chevron style afghan blanket (trying to set the scene for you) watching cartoons.  Scooby Doo to be exact.  So, this one morning sticks out in my memory where I was sneaking a ton of foil chocolate Easter eggs from my Mom’s candy dish.  No big deal, right?  Well…not until I realized I dropped a few and was laying on them and they got really warm and mushy and well, you know what I mean.  There was chocolate all over not only my nightgown, but my Mom’s green sofa!  I was totally caught, and I don’t remember being yelled at, but I remember feeling awful.   😯

I still steal foil chocolate Easter eggs and I still love green sofas to tell you the truth.

So, how do you like this cute Easter Egg Boxwood Topiary I created in minutes?  I made one, but I kind of wish I had two.  I set it out on the white console in our foyer for the Spring season, and once the eggs are gone it will still work.  So, you’re probably wondering if I glued the eggs onto the faux boxwood topiary (tree) and the answer is, no.  I opted not to because I want the chocolate egg stealers in my family to be able to grab one with out any commotion.  Just grab it, and go.

The thrifty part comes in when I tell you where to get the gold foiled chocolate eggs.  If you didn’t already know, the dollar store has several varieties…

Finding the boxwood topiary is the hard part, but I made it easy for you with many selections at the bottom of this post.  Just click on the links for more information. Then after your topiary arrives, just stick those golden eggs in there and watch your family steal them one by one.  Oh, and a warning…my Sylvia kitty liked to knock them out of the tree, too.  So, be careful with that because our pets can get very sick if they eat chocolate.  Our Sylvia got bored real quick so I was okay.

This is such a cute topiary and I LOVE your foil egg story. That tree would last all of 5 minutes in my house….lots of chocolate stealers here. 😉

Your Easter Egg tree is Adorable.
Now you have to make a ‘special’ tree just for your cat by putting in cat treats in place of the chocolate eggs. :} After all, your cat is a family member, can’t leave him / her out of all the fun snatching something from it’s Easter tree.

Hi Becky! So happy you like the tree. I love hearing about your cats, too! Sylvia would just love hanging out with them I’m bet! Our power is out right now due to wind so she is a bit freaked out wondering what is up with all the candles.

  8. make sure nobody is nibbling any chocolates and then lay on them on that beautiful blue sofa!

    Hi Julie:
I have an Easter tree with white branches and artificial eggs hanging on it. I think I will take your cute idea and try to hang some chocolate eggs on it this year. Thanks for your inspiration.
    Cheers, Bette
