Grommet Panel Curtains for Living Room Entrance

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Remember when I told you that I preferred our windows to be naked, or at least not covered up with curtains?  Well, that didn’t necessarily mean that I wouldn’t find another spot to hang curtains!  Come on now, you know me better than that.  So, what do you think of “Grommet Panel Curtains”?  You never heard of them?  Well, I bet you have seen them.  Here, let me show you what I’m talking about…

Never thought of this before! Grommet curtain panels hung in the entry way make a dramatic statement.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see those white grommet curtains?  For me, it’s Marilyn Monroe.  The white satin reminds me of her famous white dress.  Hey take another look…

Whoa…Sylvia is so shocked she had to look away.  Okay in that photo I am really digging how the wedding dress over the mantle seems to sway the same way the white curtains do.  That was not planned, but I absolutely love that it happened.

So, yes, “grommet panel curtains” have the holes at the top of the panel so you can slide them onto a curtain rod with ease.  I like them because it gives off a rustic casual vibe rather than too fancy.  I mean obviously I like fancy, but I do like me some rustic, too.

Here’s the living room entrance before we hung the curtains.  It looked fine, right?

So, why add curtains?  Well, I’ve heard through the Instagram line (follow me here) that back in the day folks would hang curtains in living room entry ways to help keep the heat in.  Ironically enough, I did that very same thing in our kitchen.  You can see those curtains here: White Ruffled Gypsy Curtains.

To be honest though, I didn’t do it for that reason.  I really just did it for fun.  To try something new that I haven’t seen.  I also love the glam factor along with our new blue velvet sofa (see source list below).

You could do this in any open doorway, or entryway. I actually did it in our first house in the 90’s in the entrance to a hall.  I matched up the curtains that were on the window on the adjacent wall and it almost gave the appearance of 2 windows in the room.  Pretty cool idea.

Now, we used a very long curtain rod and had to secure it in the middle so it doesn’t droop down.  I went a few inches above the moldings and didn’t worry about the curtains being too long.  I actually prefer the look of draped curtains on the floor. (Don’t forget to use an anchor if you don’t have studs where you are drilling.)

As you can see, Sylvia our cat (she’s in almost every photo) really likes hanging out with me when I get the camera out.

Here’s another angle where you can see how I use mirrors to not only reflect the room, but make it look larger.

Here’s one last view of the entire room from my staircase.  I decided on warm lighting rather than bright white, and I added softer parson chairs to our table.  I also planted that palm in that pretty urn my husband gave me for Mother’s Day.

Happy Weekend Julie! ~ Glam is a great descriptive word for your new curtains! They shimmer & glisten & inspire the entire living room entrance! ~ I love the accents of gold (mini table, pillows on dining room chairs, lamp shades) & the white, from your beautiful dress picture, to the white tulips in the pitcher & bowl……the curtain panels are a hint to what’s to come within…..
Love the unique table in front of the couch, is that new?!

Wowzers!!! LOVE the softness the curtains bring to the rooms! Way to go!!! Love the satin! I think Sylvia is jealous and wants a gown! :))))

WOW! Now that has a real classy look. Makes for a Grand entrance into the other room.
    Great Job. Absolutely love that.

I love how Sylvia thinks it is all about her!! I adore her and your beautiful home!

  6. Love the drapes. They really soften everything.

I love your look! Just beautiful!
I love when curtains puddle on the floor and have some that do that, but would be worried with white panels for fear they would get dirty easily, especially if this is a high traffic area. ( I have kids and dogs and cats!) Do you have a fabric that can be washed or do they have to be dry cleaned?
Thank you for all your beautiful photos!

It cracks me up how cats love to check out new things. I bet you didn’t have to work to get your kitty in those pictures. They are the most curious beasts! Looks great by the way!

    • Julie says:

Kyle it is the funniest thing. As soon as I get it all staged she comes out and waits. Then almost poses for the camera. I don’t have to do anything except sometimes I have to make noise so she looks at the camera. Have a great weekend!!

I love the post, as always – but I just have to say how cute it is that your Mom and Dad always post – Mom and Dad in NY – just in case you have another Mom and Dad and you do not want to confuse them. 🙂

And Sylvia is a beautiful kitty!

At first I wasn’t sure about this. However, when you photograph the whole room. I love it! It is great how it all ties together with that awesome painting over your mantle. Your blue accents and sofa are great too! I love looking at your site. It always makes me happy.
Have you done anything with grey paint? Hubby and I are about to redo our master suite and use grey on walls. Just wondered if you had experimented with grey colors and found any you liked?
    Have an awesome weekend!

    • Julie says:

Thank you, Lisa! Actually I just painted my grey office (it was an ugly grey) white. All of our walls are white now because I love it up against our dark moldings. Good luck with your painting…have you checked Pinterest for the best grey paint shades yet?

I love that look. I want to see where I can pull that off! Have a great weekend!

  12. Joanne says:

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!…While the room was beautiful before, this adds an understated yet glamorous finish to it…like a frame does for a picture. Back in the day, my Aunt used curtains between rooms(for privacy mostly), but nothing like this…lol. As usual, gorgeous!

  13. carol says:

Oh Yes!! Looks wonderful; I have always liked the look in the old farm houses that had the long elegant curtains handing at the ‘double doorways’. Yours has that elegance but with a modern touch that welcomes you right into the living room (gotta get in there and see that beautiful painting)!! GOOD JOB JULIE, I love it.

    • Julie says:

You caught me on here, Carol! Thank you so much. I really like it, too. Something different! Have a great weekend…it’s going fast 😉

  14. Rachelle says:

I absolutely love the look and adore your blue sofa. I am curious to know if your wood molding is painted black or just a really dark brown natural wood. From a fellow red head!!

  15. Pauline says:

You are so talented, I wish I could have some of those talents. You do a wonderful job in your home.

  16. bj says:

While Marilyn didn’t come to mind(,lol) I do love you curtains. I did the same in our old house but used an expandable rod inside the doorway….
I see you aren’t using the little round brass table as a coffee table…

  17. Ivory says:

Not surprise this to looks rocking good, because you did it, that’s why!

  18. dawn says:

    Julie,
love it! i also think that blue velvet drapes to match your sofa would look great too!

I love the character that this added to the space. You did an amazing job!
