Christmas Ornament Ombre Rainbow
My kids laugh at me often. In fact, many people laugh at me, often 😀 . You see…I sometimes get words mixed up, and I also stutter, and to be honest I really don’t care. I just keep on talking, or trying to talk. Then when I realize the mistakes I’ve made, or the funny sounds that I’ve uttered, I actually enjoy laughing at myself. Why tell you this now? The word OMBRE. I have been pronouncing it wrong for years and my teens just recently taught me the correct pronunciation. “OMBRA” with a short a sound is my way. Well, apparently it’s supposed to be “OMBRAE” with a long a sound at the end. Will I change the way I say it? Probably not.
No matter how you say it…we can all agree on one thing. Ombre is EVERYWHERE this Christmas. I’ve seen it on trees, wreaths, and even cookies. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I needed me a piece of ombre cake and I needed it fast. Okay, maybe not cake, but something. Something OMBRE. Something EASY. So, I looked around the house for a location that didn’t have any Christmas decor.
Boom. “Christmas Ornament Ombre Rainbow” was born.
Here’s how I got this look:
I took everything off of our shelf above our cooktop, and I dusted it. That felt good, it really needed it. Then I went in the basement and opened the ornament box back up and started searching for the colors, big or small, it didn’t matter (just follow my color pattern if you get mixed up). I wasn’t sure if I had enough to make an ombre rainbow, but surprisingly I had all of the colors except orange and purple.
The next day I picked up a few purple and used “gold” for the orange. Smart, right?
There’s just something about it…I mean, I love rainbows to begin with, but you add in Christmas bulbs, and all of the beautiful colors that fade into one another, it becomes something very special. Knowing that most of us can create a “Christmas Rainbow” without spending any money makes me happy.
Remember now, you can do this anywhere. In the bathroom on a shelf, on a shelf at work, on the kitchen window sill (that I must try), in a tablescape, in a vase, and even in your back window of your car. Okay, that last one I’m just joking.
Before I go fetch the kids at school, I have to tell you about this other amazing Christmas ornament craft my friend, Heather from The Heathered Nest shared a couple weeks ago. When I saw it, I knew I had to try it. Get this…she melted little pieces of crayon inside a clear glass ornament and made beautiful ornaments out of it all.
I decided to make some for some special friends of mine, and the fun part is that I was able to custom color each one to each friend. Lets say you have a friend that likes the Buffalo Bills. Well, just use the Buffalo Bill colors in your ornament. These make wonderful, thoughtful gifts…
and they are COOL.
See Heather’s full tutorial HERE.
One more, and then I really gotta go!!
Here’s a cute recycling idea I did a few years back…just fill a clear ornament with burned out Christmas lights and add the “You light up my life” label to give to someone special. How easy is that!?
See you Friday~

Love the rainbow ornaments display! <3
Thank you, MaryBee!! ~ Julie
Oooh, Julie!!
All I can say is this…if we lived close by, our men would not know what to think. Two women with the same thoughts on the same block! 😉
Again, you have knocked it outta that park! Stay warm, my friend.
Sharon
Hi Sharon, and you are so funny!! I think my husband would faint, lol.
I love the rainbow colors too (who doesn’t?) and your shiny Christmas balls look beautiful. The window sill sounds like the perfect spot for me. Gonna give it a try.
So happy to hear that, Carol! Let me know how it goes. Merry Christmas to you! ~ Julie
Julie,
I’m fairly new to your blog, and I simply love to hear from you.
Your ideas are so cool; keep on and have a very merry Christmas.
Hi Cookie! Thanks so much, and I will try my hardest 😉 XO Merry Christmas! ~ Julie
Julie, I really love all your ideas, but I’m wondering where you store all your decorations. Those wonderful Merry Christmas letters, your Santa collection, and all your other indoor and outdoor ideas. My china cabinet is very full and I don’t even have red wine glasses. Tell me your secret of where you store everything? Thanks. Margaret
Hi Margaret, That is such a great question! I have a big basement that has a room for me to store all of my holiday decor. Before I had that I used big bins labeled for each holiday and stacked them in my attic. I like to stay organized so every Spring I have a garage sale and get rid of stuff I no longer use. I hope this helps. By the way bins go on sale this time of year!
I got curious about the pronunciation issue, since I have pronounced it both ways. Wow, are there differences of opinion! Your way would be closer to how the French (with a rolled r) and Canadians pronounce it, and theirs would be closer to that of the U.S. fashion industry.
Very interesting, Pat! Thanks for stopping by. Merry Christmas~ Julie
