Sometimes you just have to take a risk and try it to know that it’s not for you.
That was the case here, with this stereo console I made over AGAIN. You see, I originally painted it black. I loved it, but I always wondered “what if”. So, I tried a teal color. I liked it at first, but after a while, it stood out too much. It was all I could see in the foyer. I had to either wear sunglasses in the house, or do something.
I decided to do something.
How do you like our fresh rustic “White Console” now?

Here she is was way back in the beginning. A neighbor had given it to us for free. We ripped out the inside parts and curtains, and repaired what was damaged or missing. I also replaced the knobs with these: Mercury Glass Knobs.
It looked stunning black. Probably still my favorite choice. The only thing I didn’t like was that the trellis in the windows didn’t show up. The x’s blends in and disappear…otherwise, this thing is rustic chic in black. Then again, everything in black is chic.
You can get the paint colors and information on that original makeover here: Black Stereo Console Makeover.
Then I got brave and painted it a teal color that was very pretty (actually more green in person), but like I mentioned earlier, it was a bit much for my taste. As my youngest use to say as a little girl…”Too spicy. Too spicy.” I prefer more of a classic look.

Here we are back today…
I love it in white because the trellis stands out, and it gives off a clean, fresh vibe. It also looks beautiful up against my “Thrift Store Silver Platter Wall”. Oh, and check out how it accentuates the wood tones in our “DIY Rustic Shutters”.
If you’re wondering why I have stacked wood in the middle, that’s because we have 2 fireplaces and live in Michigan. We love our wood.
***I used Behr Premium Ultra paint in “Swiss Coffee” with eggshell sheen.
Please leave a comment & let me know which one you prefer? If you need a pin, I made one here:

Gorgeous styling ♥
Looks good, another fine job, love, Dad
Thanks, Dad!
I prefer the black. I am so over all this white furniture. But, that is just my preference and it’s not my house. Do what makes you happy.
Not painting it again, makes me happy 😉 I love the black, too!!
I’m old school, I love the black.
Me too!
You have a lot of black in your home so I think the white is a nice contrast.
Hi Julie! …. Mmmm, 3 choices! The Teal paint looks like metallic royal blue on my computer! I would do it a mid aqua color for my house tho! I really like your Black look to the cabinet becuz you added the lights & that makes it look so cozy & warm & inviting ~ White would be ok, but I like white in the Spring/Summer months. It is really cool to see that old outdated stereo cabinet transformed & updated! ~ Thanx for your all your inspirations…..
Thank you, Becky! The stereo console has become a bit of a chameleon! 😉 ~ Julie
I like color. I’ve never liked white. The black looked good too. I really like repurposing older pieces like that. It’s beautiful.
Thank you, Rhonda!
I really, really liked the black – that is the way I would go. But I do understand why you went white it does make your decor pop on that wall and looks good with the shutters. But I still love the black. But all of your decor inspires me you do such a great job I would move in no problem and not change a thing.
Hi Nanc! Thanks for stopping by! Julie 🙂
Julie,
I just love your ideas. We need to get you on Good Morning america. I gotta tell you the black looks rich and very sexy. That would be my first choice and only but are you doing anything around the house for the holidays??? Are you decorating now???
love ya,
Melissa
Thank you, Melissa! Yes, I am decorating the tree this weekend. Stay tuned!! 🙂 ~ Julie
Black. It’s elegant and looks great in your home.
My favorite is the black, the white my second choice. Sorry, but I’m not a fan of the wood in any of them. Just my humble opinion.
Julie, love both the black and white versions, Hun. I think the addition of the internal lights is amazing and really gives a warm, classy feel. Thank You for all your inspirations. <3 xxx
Thank you, Chrissy! 😉 ~ Julie
My fav is the black.
LOVE both the black and white. The white looks really nice with the blue rug, very soothing!
Love it painted black, but it sometimes needs a change.
I like the black; looks more sophisticated.
My favorite is the black but the white is very pretty too.
I am a fan of the black. Maybe paint the inside white so your grid shows up. The white makes it look like everything on every other blog. Otherwise I love your style. Your blog is inspiring.
I like the white AND the black. Both are great.
ENJOY !! ?Linda
I adore black & white everything! Having said that I think the white is a nice change given entry ways tend to be a bit dark and it really compliments the rustic shutter. I re-did a similar cabinet only sanded, wire brushed, sanded, and scraped the grill (lattice) another fun look. You are amazing and so is your home…Many Blessings!
That sounds pretty, Darlene!
LOVE. THE. BLACK.
But do what makes YOU smile when you walk into your room!!
Great advice!
I would choose the white. It goes perfectly together with the wall gallery of trays. Love the aqua rug. It ties it all in. I’ve been trying to find one myself. May I ask where you bought your rug?
Hi Nancie, Thank you for stopping by! Here’s all of the information on the pretty rug: http://redheadcandecorate.com/2016/06/new-kitchen-runner-foyer-area-rug/ ~ Julie
I really like the black. Looks chic ..just like you said…but sometimes a girl just has to find out if that is what she really wanted..?Your house ..whatever makes u happy.
Love the black! Just stunning.
I love your style, your house is absolutely beautiful! This console is beautiful in white but the black is definitely my favorite!
They all look nice. My favorite is the black. It looks casual but elegant. ?
Still prefer the black.
My favorite is the black version, with the white being a close second. Not a fan of the teal. At all. Good job!
I adore the BLACK. The black color, pleaseeeeee
These are beautiful! The black is my favorite. I love the extra dimension the black gives when you have those lights inside the cabinet spaces, and they sort of wink through the panes.
How did you get the silver stuck to the wall?
Here’s my post on it, Lesa.
Whoops! I was too quick! https://redheadcandecorate.com/2014/09/thrift-store-silver-platter-wall/
Love the black!! Classy!!!
