Mom's Day

Psst!  Mother’s Day is May 8th this year.  As a Mom for over 16 years, I want you to know a secret.  The best gifts are the ones that are homemade.  Forget about spending all of your savings on Mom, and take a few minutes to create something for her from your heart instead.  That’s what I did, and I’m here to share this simple idea.  It takes a little planning though, so you better get on it.

I made my Mom this “3 Generations of Love ‘Hand Photo Card’ “…

If you follow redheadcandecorate.com on Facebook (you can do that here) then you probably know that my parents recently moved back to NY after living by our side for almost 18 years.  It was a very sad time and a little stressful, too.  However, they are doing really good back home with my sisters.  We plan to visit them very soon.

So, before we loaded up their house, and made the trip through Canada (it’s about a 5 hour drive), we spent the day together and I brought my camera.

Mother’s Day 2012

I told all the “ladies” meaning my girls and my Mom, to wash their hands and file their nails if they needed it.  Then I looked around the house for a nice back ground, and I noticed the Daisy canvas by Darren Gygi on my Mom’s wall that I gave to her last year for Mother’s Day (her cat’s name is Daisy).

I knew it would make a perfect background for the “hand” photo I was creating.

Here we are right after I took the photo of our hands.  It was a bitter sweet moment because this was it.  They were leaving the next day.

Family Photo Mom & Dad 2016

My Mom didn’t really ask what I was doing because she’s use to me always being up to something.  She just did as I asked, with no questions 🙂

We placed 1 of our hands on the daisy canvas and it took me a couple tries to get the positions right, but I was extremely happy with the way it turned out.  I edited the final photo in Picmonkey by making it black and white, and adding the titles.  Then, I printed it out on photo paper from my awesome printer (if you need a printer, this one rocks: PRINTER).

I framed it, and I also made mini cards the size of business cards for our wallets.

I know she will love it, and we will cherish this photo for generations.

Happy Mother’s Day to all.
