Affordable Fall Scarf Decorating

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

If you could see our daughter’s bathroom, you would see the “Wall of Scarves”.  Millions (okay, maybe not millions) of scarves hang from the shower curtain rod.  Who needs a shower curtain when you have scarves?  Luckily the shower is separate, so these scarves do just fine there, but still.  How did they get there, you ask?  I put them there.  Not only that, I bought them all too.

I admit it.  I am a sucker for scarves.  I’m also a sucker for my daughters.  All they have to do is walk up to me with scarf in hand and their pretty little face, and that scarf is ours.  Done.  Deal.  I hope they don’t read this.

So…yes.  We have scarves.  Lots of them.  I think it’s about time I start using them in my decorating.  Sounds a bit odd, but it sure doesn’t look odd.  Scarves are cozy.  Fall is cozy.  Scarves + Fall = Cozy.

Welcome to part one of my “Affordable Fall Scarf Decorating”.

Sylvia is here as your host…

Sylvia would look great with a scarf on, don’t you think?

Fall Scarf Decorating

If you go back a bit, you may all remember when we made over our staircase.  We painted it with out having to do any sanding.  If you want to know what paint we used, you can find all of that information here: Staircase Makeover.

The stairs are so pretty after painting them, they make it easy on me to decorate.  I didn’t want to go over board this year, and I definitely wanted to use things I had, or could purchase with out spending a lot.  I only decorated one bannister.  It’s more than enough.

I started off with the leaf garland from the dollar store.  I’m not really into faux leaves, but this stuff is so darling I couldn’t resist, plus our leaves are still green here.  It wrapped around the spindles easily, and I attached it on the ends with tacks.

Next, I added the dollar store ribbon and tied a bow at both finials (the finials are pineapples which are a symbol of hospitality).

The faux pumpkins are also from the dollar store, and the green glasses are from the thrift store.  I added a few tea lights to the glasses to turn them into candles.

After a few photos I thought adding a few things might make it all even cozier.  That’s when the scarf idea struck.  I decided on my favorite creamy cable knit scarf and wrapped it around the bannister using tacks to secure on both ends.

It might look like I’m going on a trip, but my vintage suitcase & boots are out just for fun.

Once the sun started setting, I lit the fire.

Then, I really got in the mood by adding a cute little Fall vignette in the corner by the front door.

Heads up, the owl was only $9.99 at HomeGoods.

Now go look through your scarves, and use them in your fall decor this year.  I’ve seen them draped on couches as mini blankets, and I’ve also seen them wrapped around pumpkins.  Next Friday I’m bringing you another “Affordable Fall Scarf Decorating” idea.  I can’t wait to share it.  It’s in our kitchen!

Where did you get that gorgeous entry way rug? I am in love.

I have a # of Fall scarves including large 40 inch squares and some long narrow but long. I use the square ones diagonally on the dining room table underneath a centerpiece or other decorations. The long narrow ones I use on the mantle or on the dining room sideboard.
