Seaside Tablescape & Giveaway

Welcome to our “Seaside Tablescape on the beach”!

Okay, you know I don’t live on the beach, and as far as I can tell I am definitely not on vacation at the beach.  Who says we can’t pretend?

We do live on a lake here in South East, Michigan.  It’s called Pung’s Lake.  It’s not very big, it’s more like a large pond, but it sure is pretty…

We can’t swim in there because it’s too mucky, but we have plenty of wild life that take full advantage of it.  Everything from beautiful swans that swim by daily, geese, ducks, heron, and huge turtles.  The geese can get rather loud, but the swans are breath taking.  They seem to like when I bring my tripod out.

Sometimes, the turtles come up to the house.  Our youngest made one her pet one Summer.  We eventually decided Rosie should be free, so we let her go.

So, back to the Seaside Tablescape…

I’ve been kind of in a Beachy (yes, that says beachy) mood lately with the warmer air approaching, so when I was invited to participate in an outdoor blog hop where we share our outdoor spaces…I jumped right on it.

Some of you may already know that I pretend we live on a beach often.  Our living room is crowned our “Winter Beach Lodge“.

It’s clearly not a beach…but it surely is our little oasis that helps us relax.

What makes it really special is that we just updated our fire pit using a DIY Fire Pit Kit

When I began to think about what I would share for the blog hop I knew I wanted something that was easy for you to create yourself, no matter where you live.  I wanted to create a “seascape” directly on the table…card table to be exact.

That way, it’s easy to move around and most people have one, or could even borrow one.

How to transform a card table into a beautiful seaside tablescape for 2!

I had fun walking around the house with my “Seaside Tablescape radar” and grabbed anything that I could find that would fit into that category.

I wanted it to look fresh, romantic, rustic, BEACHY.  Also EASY…not too fancy.

I was lucky enough to remember that I had stored burlap from another project to use to cover up the card table (DIY instant table cloth).  It was cut just like fabric is when you buy it, so I layered it and poked some holes in it to tie the sides together with twine.  Very very simple.

I also brought our dining room chairs out to add some depth to the setting.  They really helped “ground” the look.

For the actual table setting, I used real wood from our wood pile (drift wood would be great too) and stacked them up like a mini bonfire.  I didn’t have any sand for the candles, so I filled the jars with blue road salt and a tea light.  The color is pretty and also safe to use.

The plates are from the dollar store a couple years ago, and the napkins I tied with twine.

The shells I collect, and the cute little vintage salt & pepper shakers are from the thrift store.

The pillows (I bought off Ebay 2 years ago) were the final touch which added color and comfort.

See the swan peaking around the bench?

Awesome! I love your tablescape. I didn’t know you couldn’t swim in your lake. At least you get to enjoy the wildlife.

Love Love Love your table idea and your blog. I, too, live by a small lake and have never actually swimmed in it. More of a clean pool person I guess. I also read your blog about preserving basil and am going to try that immediately. I am going to add your blog to my daily DIY ideas reading list.

  3. yes, light that grill and pour more wine! what a great backdrop and table that you have set. I am thinking this summer when i can’t find a babysitter my hubby and i will go out to dinner in a corner of the backyard, and i will do something like this while the kids are jumping on the trampoline in the other. 🙂

Wow, you really do have a beautiful “beach.” I don’t think I would get anything done if I lived there because I would be sitting by that fire pit all the time!
