Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
It’s time to remember and give thanks to those that fought for our country and gave their lives for our freedom.
I decided to bake a cake in their honor.
I know what you’re thinking.
Forget the “Red Cake Stand”.
How about that cake?
I wish I could tell you that the cake is an old family recipe that has been around for generations.
The truth is, it’s just a boxed cake mix and store bought frosting.
Although, I must say it did turn out pretty sweet.
It took me a while to get that frosting to swirl like that. Still not quite sure how that happened.
Have you ever noticed how expensive cake plates or cake stand are?
It’s really unfair. Like this one from Pottery Barn…
It costs $45.00.
My version cost $4, plus red spray paint if you don’t have it.
I used the bottom of the candle for the base, and this metal wall art piece for the plate.
Both were found at Good Will.
I became slightly attached to the little girl & dog.
Once I started though, there was no going back.
Once both pieces dried, I centered the base and glued it together with strong glue.
Since I used spray paint, I used a doily under the cake.
A plate would work too.
This red cake stand is perfect for Memorial Day, The Fourth of July, Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day…wow, the list goes on.
Here’s a few more patriotic ideas…

All Beautiful! Thank you for the ideas!!!
Hi, what kind of glue did you use to affix the red plate and candle stand?

Gorgeous cakestand! And, I’m a big fan of raised (pedestal) cake plates and beautiful presentation of my food! I would make a gorgeous hummingbird cake, or a homemade carrot cake, and place it on your pedestal cake plate. Love the RED!
Thank you, Barbara! I would love to see that hummingbird cake!
I am sooo gonna copy that adorable cake stand….
Thanks for the reminders; I have enjoyed watching you transform all of these items but sometimes forget what I’ve seen (these ‘senior moments’ are happening more often these days lol ). I really like the red cake plate; think I just might make of of those this year. So bright and perfect for the patriotic holidays ahead. Great for graduations also if it matches the school colors.
