Greek Yogurt Pizza Dough

Benzoyl Peroxide????  In pizza dough?

I had recently noticed that the frozen dough I have been using for years has benzoyl peroxide in it.  It’s listed on the ingredients.  I swear I almost called the company and yelled at them.  It was definitely time for a change.

I was now on a mission to find a healthy pizza dough for all of us to make at home with out a lot of fuss, ingredients, or TIME.

We tested quite a few recipes, and this was by far, the best.

It’s healthy, it’s fresh, and it’s ready in minutes.  There’s no yeast to deal with either.  Yeast stresses me out too much.  Bye bye yeast.

2 Ingredient Greek Yogurt Pizza Crust

2 ingredient Greek yogurt pizza dough recipes are all over Pinterest.  I was very skeptical at first, but let me tell you what I found…

1. This crust is very easy to work with.  It’s like working with really soft play dough.  Not only did it come together quickly for me in my stand up mixer, but it spread out on the pan super easy.  I didn’t have to fight it to get it to stretch out.

2. This crust has excellent flavor due to the Greek Yogurt.  It’s not sweet, and it lets the toppings do the talking.

3. This crust isn’t overly fluffy, and develops a nice crispy, chewy texture.  More like New York style, our favorite.

4. It’s fast.  I bet if we had a race, I could get a fresh Greek yogurt pizza on my table in 30 minutes.

5.  I didn’t get heartburn when I ate it.  Pizza sometimes does that…this one has that awesome Greek yogurt in there, so it soothes my belly.

6.  My entire family loved it.

7. No Benzoyl Peroxide!

Greek Yogurt Pizza Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain fat free Greek yogurt (I used generic)
  • 1 & 1/2 cup SELF RISING FLOUR (I used Gold Medal Self Rising Flour)
  • (If you don't have self rising flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder & 3/4 teaspoon salt to the 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour-it will turn out the same, I made it both ways.)
  • olive oil, sauce, cheese, toppings

Instructions

Add flour and yogurt to stand up mixer. (if you don't have a mixer, mix in bowl, and then knead the dough on a floured surface until it is very soft and not sticky)

Use the attachment that looks like a big hook.

Mix on low scraping the sides when necessary.

Eventually after a couple minutes it should form a mushy ball.

You can add a little water if its too dry, or a little more flour if it's too sticky.

When you take it out of the bowl, sprinkle a little four on it and make sure it isn't sticky.

Add more flour and knead if it is sticky.

Plop your dough on a pan that has olive oil spread all over it.

Spread out with your fingers just like you would any other dough, but leave this dough on the pan (no tossing in the air).

Add your favorite toppings.

Bake 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Made this recipe last week and I’m writing it on a recipe card right now to add to family favorites! I have tried so many pizza doughs and half of them have to rise for like 3 hours and are a ton of work and turn out like”homemade pizza” not that there is anything wrong with that! Some times you want that good old pizza parlor dough and here it is! We made Stromboli with it and it was just what I have been searching for! Thank you thank you for posting this! -Jess 🙂

  11. Kristie says:

Can I use regular yogurt or does it have to be Greek?

  12. Evelyn says:

Sprinkle the olive oil with a little cornmeal before adding the dough and it will have a more crispy texture!

  13. Miranda says:

Just made this, and it’s amazing! Only problem, it’s a bit to much for me. Can it be kept in the fridge to eat the left overs the day after?

  14. Heather says:

Can you use vanilla flavored Greek yogurt?

  15. Heather says:

I actually tried it last night with the vanilla because that’s all I have on hand and I’m pregnant and hungry, and you couldn’t even tell! I made it again today for a birthday lunch and no one noticed. I think the toppings covered it. Even by itself, the edges aren’t that sweet.

That is so awesome, Heather! Thanks for letting us know. Now that I think about it, it sounds really good!! 🙂 ~ Julie

Hi! Thanks for posting this. I cannot wait to try it! I’ve been looking for a pizza dough recipe that doesn’t end up too bread-y. My husband and I like it with a bit of a crispness to it.

I do have a question. If I wanted to make this and freeze the dough, would you recommend just freezing the dough ball or forming them into the crust shape then freezing? Could you even make a crust shape and add toppings/sauce like premade frozen pizzas? Lol I’m getting a little excited here. Can you tell? 😛
If you’re not sure then I’ll just have to try it and let you know!

Do you bake the crust for a few minutes before you top it?

  25. The next time I go to my sisters house I am taking this recipe along and we will make it there. We love doing things together and cooking is one of them. Question can I break the dough in 1/2 to make 2 personal pan size pizzas and freeze them. Well I would eat 1. Thank you so much for sharing this. Carol Fleming
