White Painted Living Room

This is the thing about decorators.  Or at least it holds true for this decorator.  We change our minds.  A lot.  Some may think it’s being picky, a waste of time, or some may think I’m an over achiever.  I think it’s more about feeling comfortable with the decisions, and not having that “I shouldn’t have done that” feeling.  It’s a natural process for me, and I don’t think I will ever find another way.

The old paint color was all wrong, I just didn’t want to admit it to my husband.

When I finally got the nerve to bring it up, he took it well.  He actually agreed with me, and we set the date to get it done.  He did most of it while I worked on another project, but I can take credit for holding the ladder, which is a very important job in this room.

We are both very happy with the results.  The house will be easier to sell this way, too.  You will notice the dark wood isn’t competing with the color we used on the walls before, and the turquoise accents pop.

I also restyled the room by moving my “Photo Door” up towards the front so it’s not in hiding.  You may notice the sofa has changed as well.  The original was too small for all of us to watch a movie on and it didn’t feel right in more ways than one.  I wanted something more contemporary.  You can find more info on the new leather sectional here.

Before After White Painted Living Room

The white paint we used is Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Swiss Coffee in egg shell sheen (see *note at bottom).  It’s my absolute favorite white paint. In fact, I’ve used it through out our home.  It all started when I painted our hutch in the kitchen with it.  This white reminds me of creamy vanilla ice-cream.  It’s not too bright, yet really gives a creamy, natural glow.  It covers easily because it has the primer in it and the best part…no odor.  You don’t even know you are painting in the house.

Thanksgiving is less than a week away, so before I go, I wanted to share this wonderfully convenient link where you can enter the pounds of your frozen turkey, and it will calculate the amount of days you need to thaw your turkey in the refrigerator.  I’m getting my turkey out of the freezer today and putting it in a big roasting tin in my fridge.  It will defrost slowly and there will be less risk of bacteria growing.  Just punch in your turkey’s weight here:

*note: I received paint from Behr Paint for this “Painted White Living Room” project.  Prior to this project, I fell in love with Behr paint.  All opinions in this article are true and I completely recommend trying Behr Paint products.

Funny thing–We just painted our living room/dining room turquoise! We love it! It was yellow for 13 years and we were looking for something different…and we got it!

Love it! Love the before, love the after! I also am a decorator, and I know what you mean, when something doesn’t feel right. It’s not being picky, it’s just off, and you know it has to change. Even when others tell you how good something looks, if it doesn’t give you “that feeling”, you know it’s gotta go! Happy Thanksgiving!

I cant believe the transformation on the hutch.. it is so beautiful in white! Funny, I have been thinking of incorporating white walls back into my home, but with all the wood, wasn’t sure I should…. you are helping to influence me! Thanks for sharing.
