Happy Fourth of July, friends!
This stool sat on my kitchen table for 3 weeks.
Can you believe not one family member asked me to move it?
Not even during dinner.
What awesome peeps I have.
They put up with some crazy stuff.
So…what’s the story behind the “Patriotic Stool”?
The story is, there’s not much of a story.
My girls and I stopped at Salvation Army one afternoon and I noticed it.
I’m forgetting how much I paid, but it wasn’t much.
I think who ever had it before must have been a Michigan State fan.
I knew immediately it would make a cute patriotic stool.
I had most of the paint too.
I made the star stencil out of some plastic from some stickers I had.
I wanted the stool to look rustic…old.
After it was painted, I roughed it up with some sand paper.
The green started to peek through, so I used a “dry” brush to get the same look.
To do that, you put a little paint on the bristles,
then paint it out onto a paper bag or something to get most of the paint out of the brush.
You’re left with just enough paint on the brush to gently paint the edges and anywhere else to get the white brushed look.
If you look closely you will see the white all over the chair.
I wasn’t concerned about making the stripes perfect.
The stars are random, and cute.
I use the stool in the kitchen now.
It’s perfect height for blogging at our island.
I have a feeling she will be around a long time now.
