I admit it!
I love hardware stores.
I’m not talking about Home Depot, although I don’t mind Home Depot, either.
I’m talking about your smaller versions.
Like Hank’s Hardware, or Tom’s Tools.
(yes I made those up)
Even as a little girl…all the hammers, nails, paint, wood, weird things.
Weird things?
Yes…weird things.
Have you ever noticed how smaller hardware stores contain things you wouldn’t necessarily think they would.
Like, a can a beans? A bird house? A glass mug that says, “I am the boss.”
It’s the unexpected…weird things, that I like.
You know where I’m going with this, don’t you?

Okay, maybe green Ball jars aren’t exactly weird things now a days.
But a redheaded lady going into the hardware store for paint and walking out with a case of green Ball jars is a little weird.
What’s even weirder, is that I went back for a second case.
So, what in the heck is the redheaded lady going to do with all of those green Ball jars?
Don’t ever underestimate a redhead.
I’m going to make this “DIY Jar Chandelier”, silly!
You don’t have to use green Ball jars, either.
You don’t even have to use jars.
Use glasses if you have to.
The hard part is getting the bottom rack.
I’ve had this canning rack for years from my Dad and have never used it.
I’m not much of a canner.
I rather freeze stuff.
I spray painted mine black to match the chain.
Speaking of the chain…
The next hard part, is finding the chain.
I happen to be obsessed with hanging things so I have a ton of it.
If you need some, come on over you can find it here.
The gems…they were just left over from a light fixture I ordered.
If you don’t have gems, how about an old necklace?
Just drape it through the rack.
Then just fill your jars with water and flowers and hang it where ever you can.
Thanks for hanging out with me.
Have a nice weekend!

Great idea!!! I have one of those rack things. I don’t use it anymore so this would be perfect. Love the jars!
Rack things, lol…love it, Sherry!

Pretty neat idea!! I love the green ball jars….I’m going to have to reproduce this! Think I’ll look at some estate or yard sales this weekend for a canning rack that no one wants anymore….Thank you! Have a great weekend:)
Great idea, June!
In our town, it’s Hechler’s. The same family has owned this hardware store since the late 19th Century. If you can’t find it at Hechler’s you won’t find it anywhere else.
Tin ceilings, old wood floors, wood stoves and crystal bowls. That’s Hechler’s.:-) We bought all our fireplaces from Hechler’s and purchased crystal wedding gifts and Christmas ornaments there. Our Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne wedding gift came from Hechler’s. I could go on and on!LOL
I don’t have the rack, but I have some beautiful purple mason jars 😀
Yeay!!
It’s GORGEOUS ( and I just ordered 6 aqua bell jars – hmmmm )
xxx
Perfect timing, Suzan!
Way too cute, Julie! I would love to do this outside…one day soon!
xoxo

Thanks, girl. Love ya!!
Purple ball jars? Have never seen any or heard they made them in that color. How awesome. I’d love to have some of them along with a few 1000 other people. I have 4 green jars, bought at Target. Then just this last week Target had them on sale for $8.99 so got 6 blue ones.
Have to admit would love to been able to buy 4 more green ones(or more) of course. I have few of the vintage blue jars in different sizes I got in MT and KY. Hard to find here (western CO) and if I do they want way too much for my budget. Would so love to find a canning rack and put 4 green jars, alternated with blue ones. That might be pretty, make for pretty glass lights in sun. Would have to buy some flowers at grocery store as we don’t have any in yard. Have shepherds hook to hang rack on. Love this easy, gorgeous project. Happy summer days
I would love some purple jars JaneEllen!
The canning rack is ideal for your chandy. Gotta love me some small hardware stores. They DO have things you would NEVER find anywhere else.
Your chandy is amazing, Julie. Pinned 🙂
Thank you, Meegan! XO
I love it! I am making one for my retirement log cabin. I have a mason jar theme going. Lol.
And as an aside- with chalk paint you could make jars any color of the rainbow. Just sayin’.
Love it! Gonna share it on Pinterest.

Thank you, Tiffany!
This is fabulous. Some of the campsites that we go to have a “lantern” hook. I think this would be way nicer than a lantern. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you, Patricia! I agree!
What a clever idea! Love the extra bling you draped on the bottom to for sparkle!
Michael’s here in Denver has some purple jars and they are so cute.
Such an adorable idea! Thanks for sharing.
This is one very creative idea! I have yet to purchase a case of green jars because I have yet to figure out what to do with my case of blue ones – so I have waited. I think I have found just the idea though. Thanks so much. Donna
You are welcome, Donna!
If I buy a canning rack it won’t be from two hardware stores close to us, sheesh, pretty hot item for the price. I’m gonna have to check Michaels in Grand Junction to see if they have any purple jars, haven’t been in there for few weeks. We live few miles west of G.J. so I stay home, keeps me out of trouble.
After I saw this post went looking in two hardware stores close (5 miles away) to us, don’t think so. So guess I’ll be looking on internet or at yard sales. Now that I’ve got this idea in my head it won’t let me alone, have to find a canning rack. See what you started? lol
Hi JaneEllen,
Yes, the canning rack can be found on line. I’ve only seen the jars in hardware stores.
Our fan just quit and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it… (the front part of the guard) so I’m taking it apart and using that instead of the canning jar rack.
Brilliant!!!
I just found you and I’m hooked! I think you’re fantastic and love your sass, from one redhead to another 😉
I just got 12 of the new purple ball jars I’m so going to make this.
LOVE the idea. I have a wrought iron hanging basket with coconut lining and also, a whole much of jars. Always used the basket for herbs. As a change up this year I think I will fill the basket with jars and fill each jar with earth and then herbs. Also have a couple of troughs with coconut lining…may do the same thing with them to carry on the theme.
Thanks for the inspiration!!
Ida
hey girl love this!! So cool!
Wow! SO pretty and imaginative! I wonder if I could tuck a few solar lights in … ? Hmmm…
Great idea!! 🙂
My daughters accuse me of buying groceries according to the container! The Dollar Tree has the wire baskets with the chains, and it’s perfect with some cute salsa jars!
Dianne, I am guilty of that, too! I didn’t know the dollar store had it!!
What a great idea. Not sure if I can find the bottom rack or the chain, but I’m an avid Good Will and resale hunter, so maybe I can get lucky and find both. I can’t imagine how they sparkle in the sun:-)
Ann
They do Ann! Try the dollar store for the rack and Home Depot for the chain! -Julie
Love this idea going to see what I have in the shed got to have this for summer 4th of July family party! So cute…
Sounds like a plan, Darlene!
