DIY Gumdrop Tree

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

I knew it was coming.

As soon as I said, “I haven’t been sick in a long time.”

It started a couple days ago with just a tickle in my throat.

It’s progressed to a nasty dry hacking cough, w/ body aches, etc. that won’t let me sleep.

Rick had to sleep on the couch last night because I would have kept him up.

I heard it ‘s making the rounds, so keep washing those hands.

I’ll keep this short, but sweet 🙂

Do you like gumdrops?

I know my Mom does, she tried to steal mine on Thanksgiving.

This is not my first “Gumdrop Tree”.

You might say I’m an experienced Gumdrop Tree maker…hmmm?

5 years ago our girls and I made one and I thought it was such a cute project with the kiddos.

This year, I did most of it, but they did help a little.

You can see the fun Valerie is having…(not)

Was it worth it Val?

I’m not sure what happened to our first Gumdrop Tree, but I’m keeping this one.

The gumdrops do harden up, and I’ll spray it with a little poly to preserve it and keep ants away.

I placed it in our foyer, and there it will stay through Christmas & New Years.

Although it could go lots of places.

It’s so colorful, and would make a sweet hostess gift.

She even looks good on our “Stump End Table“.

How to make your own Gumdrop Tree!

If you would like to make one, you will need a Styrofoam tree cone.

You can find those at the dollar store, or Michaels.

Then load up on spice gels.

Spice gels?

That’s what they were called at K-mart.

I ran out of Meijer brand and we had to stop for more.

We bolted into K-mart one day and found them.

Spice gels…they’re gumdrops people!

We had a bit of a laughing attack in K-mart that day.

We snapped our tooth picks in thirds, and started at the top.

It’s really quite easy to make.

Perfect fun for young children or grandchildren.

(remember they are a choking hazard)

Yummy umy yum! I’m afraid I would eat it, although it is way too cute!

  2. Debra Matovic says:

My mother has made these for years. If you plan on being able to eat the gumdrops after the holiday (they’ll be a little hard), do not use the toothpicks. They will splinter when trying to take them out. Instead use straight pins and then you can easily pull them out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
