Every Blogger Needs Their Own Sign!

If you own your own business, or have a blog, this is perfect for you.  Hey, you could even do this for your daughter or son’s bedroom.  I needed to personalize the dining room—> turned office with a sign of some sort.  I looked on line and found “Expressive Walls” by Sandi Sassenberger (found here) and decided letters would be perfect for the wall in my office.  Pretty inexpensive as well (especially with the 15% she has going right now).  You can see by this picture I was pretty darn excited when I finished it last week-although I wasn’t quite finished here (read below).  I felt as though RCD was finally official!!!  Up in lights!  🙂
I have to give Rick, my husband some credit as well.  He came up with putting the letters on a board when I realized the letters were a tad smaller than I anticipated (I should have measured better because they come in all sizes).  So I ventured down into our basement for a board to put them on-there’s always boards floating around down in basements right!? I found this cabinet door from the armoire doors we took off on the kitchen cabinets.  You can see below I have already used the other door for a coat rack.  Found those key hooks at Bed Bath & Beyond in clearance for $3 ea.
Anyhow. . .I thought perfect size for the letters, but I wanted it white.  I had some textured white spray paint from another project, so I sprayed it.  Pretty heavily.  Let it dry for an hour and did it again.  By 8pm that night I couldn’t wait any longer, although the directions on the letters say to let paint dry for a day or longer.  I’m not a patient painter, so against my husbands advice, I took it outside and roughed it up.  Hope I didn’t disturb the neighbors 🙂
Next, I had to figure out what to embelish it with besides the letters.  It’s needed some glam.  I had the black beaded ribbon and the candelabra (I never use) crystals, so I went with crystals-could have use old jewelry too.  They very easily attached with eye hooks (I think they are called that).  The letters are pretty simple as well.  You measure a straight line, tape them in place, flip it over, peel, flatten out with a squeegee they supply, and they stick so easily.
I then turned to Rick (you can see him working in the back ground) and said. . . I told you!!!  He laughed and said, “You were right!”  What a guy! 🙂  Then I thought. . .this looks too perfect.  I need to beat it up more.  So I sanded away until I can up with this:
Rick found some studs (yes he’s a stud too!), and tad dah!  Redheadcandecorate.com has it’s official headquarters!!  (Thank you Expressive Walls!)
