Peppermint Starlight Wreath

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Don’t you love when restaurants have those red & white round peppermint candies in a bowl by the exit?

Am I guilty of taking a huge handful and keeping them in my coat pocket?

Darn “starlight” right I am!

My Mom recently saved me her issue of Midwest Living.

My first thought…

They beat me too it!

I’m making a candy wreath too.

I had visions of a big round wreath with loads of peppermint starlight candies adorned all over it.

Layers and layers of red & white sugary goodness.

A big satin red bow at the bottom.

Well, I almost got there…

here’s my “Peppermint Starlight Wreath”:

Cute, right?

Making it…

not so cute.

Usually, I’m the one telling you to, “Do this, do that…it’s easy”.

This time I’m telling you…

DO NOT DO THIS!”

*****RED FLAG*****

In case you decide not to listen to my red flag warnings,

learn from my mistakes instead.

I actually started with a round cardboard cut out that I painted white.

It became way to flimsy, so I switched to a thick square one instead.

I also painted that white.

I glued the starlights on with hot glue.

Then I ran out of glue sticks, so I used a permanent glue I had on hand.

Both worked, but tons fell off, and I had to reapply often-grrr.

Spacing was difficult.  I didn’t measure, I just winged it.

Making A Starlight Wreath

After a couple of hours I finally got everything on there that I wanted and I cut out the center.

The entire process took way too long, and my back was on fire.

Now I’m worried if I put it outside everything will end up in a big pile on the ground.

I ended up displaying it on our foyer table…much safer.

Then I realized it looks like a frame 🙂

So I put one of my candy girls in it.

Am I happy that I made it?

Yes…it’s very festive , and works well with the rest of our Christmas decor.

Do I recommend doing this.

No way Peppermint Patty!!

  2. Hi Julie my dear red headed sister! Great Aunt Myrtle would love this if she were still around. I remember she would always have a starlight mint attached to her robe somewhere LOL! Ahhhh good memories. Hugs and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Holly

  3. Julie you crack me up, it is so cute and where did you find the peppermint curls! Hey it’s good for one Christmas it’s all you can ask for!

Thanks Kelley! I found the curls @ Meijer here in Michigan. They are so cute. I think I may get a couple yrs. out of it, but still, it was such a pain.

LOL! My first thought was, “Oh, this is adorable, I’m going to get busy and make one.” And then I read your entire post and my second thought was, “Nope, I’ll just come look at Julie’s pretty wreath instead.” Thanks for the honesty on the production process. I really do love it though – it’s beautiful!

This turned out really cute! Tedious, I’m sure, but the end result is so sweet (no pun intended) I can’t imagine making one like the candy cane on the magazine cover! It looks like several layers of canes and this direction and that direction and OH MY! I think I’ll just eat a peppermint and put the rest in a pretty jar on the counter LOL! Hugs, Leena

  7. LOL ok… I am NEVER making this. But it is pretty darn tootin’ cute {just like your candy girl} and I am pinning anyway! XO

  8. Amy Renea says:

VERY cute, but sounds like NO fun in the process 🙂

  9. Tamika says:

Maybe you could put it in the oven for a short time to melt the candies to each other.
